There are a couple BA Old Rasputins sitting on a shelf at my local shop for $18.99 that I keep eying. Never had it before, so that steep price tag has me wary. Thoughts?

An abundance of HOTD From the Wood beers on a trip to Oregon. And the Cantillon that used to sit on the shelves at my localish store in Bowling Green, KY. Still remember thinking about how $20 a bottle was just too much for a beer....

Not sure what the hesitation is on their part (or Stone's part for that matter). They're both in MN & IL, so they're already moving beer into the Midwest. I do know that GF & Alesmith haven't sold incredibly well here, but neither of them really pushed folks to try their beers, either. And Alesmith has been sitting on shelves waaaaay too long. No way I'm picking up an Alesmith IPA that was bottled in Feb or March.

My other one is more of a squandered oppurtunity than a specific beer that got away.
I flew down to the GABF in 2008 and met my brother who drove down from Omaha. Had a great time at the event, and we stayed in Denver for 2 more days to visit the Falling Rock Tap House and some of the other local bars and liquor stores/bottle shops. Problem is both of us were pretty broke when we took the trip, so our exploration was cut pretty short. We made it to Falling Rock, but just for lunch and a few beers; we both could have spent the entire day there had we had the funds. Also didn't purchase any beer while in Denver either.

We're going back sometime in the next couple of years and doing it right this time...

Bottle shop in my college town had 2 cases of Bourbon County when I went in April. I had no clue and how rare it was when I was there. I even had a friend go back there this week in the hopes that it may still be there. Too bad it was gone! :slight_frown:

Went to the bottle shop of a then-new grocery store back when I was living in NYC. I fancied myself a beer man at the time, and was excited to score some sweet brews. The manager walks by and says "hey, welcome to [this new place] -- I have Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout in the back, do you want a bottle?" I had stopped in on the way back from a run and was kind of disoriented in this place at that moment, and said "I just got here, can I have a minute?" He repeated "I have KBS, would you like a bottle?" I said, "I'll find you in a second if I'm interested, let me just look around."

I looked around, found something else tasty and didn't bother to look too hard for the guy; figured if I saw him I'd say yes but otherwise I'd not be too disappointed -- it was just yet another kind of nice beer, and I the beer I was taking home was plenty nice in my eyes (some kind of middling import dunkel iirc). Got home and did some Googling and realized how close I was to landing such a supposedly awesome and hard-to-come-by beer. I returned the next day and they were all gone.

Spurred by just how close I came, that's when I decided I'd actually get to know craft beer and the community rather than just incorrectly consider myself a beer man because I knew a few mid-level craft breweries and some high-end imports. So all in all, pretty glad about that near miss :grinning:

I've passed up Angels Share and BCBS, including variants and the barley wine. Didn't really know what they were. I still struggle with Lost Abbey, every bottle seems the same and I don't know which to buy. Fortunately, I just found a local shop today with a poor craft selection, but everything from Goose Island. Got BCBS and BCBW four packs for $24.79. Don't even know if that is fair. Passed up Lolita, Madame Rose and Juliet, which I never see on shelves (Sofie, Matilda, Pepe Nero are everywhere). Not sure what fair value (or trade value) for those is either.

BC Vanilla, Rare, and CBS. Starting to become convinced I'll never try any of them, lol.
