To each his or her own, in my opinion. But I tell you what, there is a point, which I think we passed some time ago, at which anticipation turned to exploitation.

Funny it was mentioned that beer advocates used to make fun of the wine hobby for being snobby. Right now in wine there's an attitude that "there are some great boxed wines right now" and it's cool to find great lower priced wines of which there are many to choose from. Now beer drinkers are the snobs and winos are the easy going ones.

It certainly does not, but belittling others for how they go about their hobby does. I'm all for drinking local and shelf. Snobs suck, but snobs go both ways IMO.

I have enjoyed all your input thus far, even those of you who have started insulting me. I'm just glad to get a conversation going about something other than when the craft beer bubble will burst for the 19th time this summer.

I only have a quote from Funkadelic.
    "Reality can be a-stiff sometimes
But then again it can be flexible
Depending on the angle of the dangle
Increased by the heat of the meat
And with the proposition that all men are not created equal
    So why frown?
Yeah, even the sun go down
We'll call it mixed emotions for now
    Play on, Jimmy"

There is a little man in my head that says this every time I buy expensive beer. I wish he would shut up.

Am I supposed to know what CCK is? There are a lot of breweries out there, and I don't have time to memorize that many abbreviations. That's the kind of shit that makes people like me (who'll spend way more than $8 on a beer!) roll their eyes at the whale hunters and asshats who assume that all the rest of us know every farmer in Vermont just like they do.

Bottom line..who the fuck cares. Life's too short. Drink what you like. Be a snob or don't be a snob. Both have their merits.

I didn't mean to imply that the opposite was poor judgement.

I agree in principal with your statement, but as a fellow New York-er I'm shocked that price would be an influence on your personal taste since up here in NY we seem to pay high prices for everything, beer included.

Cable Car Kriek by Lost Abbey. It's a fairly famous whale (I haven't had it either, so no ill intent meant).

You sound like rich people moaning about how hard it is to be rich when poor people find it ridiculous how extravagant their lifestyles are.

Please post a photo of "millennial hipsters" so us "older" people can reference and chuckle at them. Also, thanks for starting a thread that while humorous to me seems to push other people's buttons. To provide sound advice I will quote 'CassinoNorth': "Who the hell cares. Drink your beer."

    Couple thoughts:
    - Drinking out is expensive in NYC.
    - Price matters.
    - My post wasn't about my personal taste.
    - I spend too much on beer.:slight_frown:

I wasn't the one who originally used that term, but I believe a millennial is a person born between like 1986-2001. That's probably off a tad, but you get the idea. Pretty sure hipsters are soccer fans that drink craft beer, wear black-rimmed glasses and listen to alternative rock. Photo unavailable.

You mean there's a grey area?
People can be some where in the middle, between a beer snob and a beer slob?
    OK...I'm cool with that.

Thanks. I do like a good kriek. My ultimate point though, was that there is an unconscious snobbery in the assumption that we all know the name of every whale out there. If you want to hunt whalez, go for it. Enjoy beer how you want to enjoy beer. But writing that way alienates the rest of us (as evidenced by me not knowing what beer you were referencing). If you want to know why there's pushback (reverse snobbery), reread my previous sentence.
