    http://www.chron.com/business/press...ew-Survey-Reveals-What-Craft-Brew-3698798.php

One in four beer drinkers say price matters when it comes to craft beer. A recent survey of 1,000 craft brew enthusiasts conducted by SaveOnBrew.com looked at attitudes and trends of beer buyers. While 95 percent of craft brew drinkers confess to having purchased an “exorbitantly high” beer on occasion, there seems to be a rising number of craft beer fans who want “an honest brew for a fair price.”

“Truth be told, we were genuinely surprised so many people cared about beer price when buying craft brew,” admits SaveOnBrew founder, Mark Davidson. “There’s a perception of craft beer drinkers that it’s always ‘Spare no expense. Find me the best.’ Yet, our survey found that to be simply not true.”

This is the statement that I thought was most interesting:

Price aside, craft beer drinkers rate: Drinkability, Freshness, and Accessibility high on their wish lists.

One in four? So three in four say price doesn't matter? What the hell is wrong with people? Why would any consumer ever say price doesn't matter? People are ******ed.

Funny that the survey was done by SaveOnBrew. They obviously slanted their quotes in the article to what they wanted it to say. You could also say the survey shows that 75% of beer drinkers say "price doesn't matter". We all know that everyone cares about the price but the majority of craft beer drinkers will pay a premium for great beers and not think twice about it.

Breaking news: People care about how much things cost! Coming up next: Why doesn't anyone use lead paint anymore?

It's all relevant to prices right now. I don't remotely choose my beer based on the $1-3 differences in six packs right now. So in that manner, price doesn't matter to me. When the norm becomes a $20 six pack, I'll be looking for "value" beers.

Well in actuality, as was mentioned above and despite the slant of the article, what they are really saying is most craft beer drinkers don't care how much things cost. That's actually worth discussing. I can't understand why that matters so little.

How do see 1 in 4 as a majority?

I agree that more people will be more price sensitive as craft beer prices continue to escalate.

    For me at least...

My perception of value is affected by things which I can't judge until I open the bottle, then it's too late. I'm better off spending $5 on a pint of Fuller's ESB vs $15 on a Sucuba bomber, likewise I'm better off spending $12 on a pint of Stingo than $8 on most US bombers.

I guess it comes down to risk for me, that's why I tend to stick with (generally) about 10 German and UK brewers.

Surveys are only as good as the outfit sponsoring them and the person(s) taking them. By this I mean the way the questions are asked, the way the answers are interpreted and the honesty of the people answering the surveys. Statistics can be skewed any which way. After all, look what the government and major corporations have been doing for the past umpteen years.

Being surprised to find that people care about price is like being surprised to find that people don't like being set on fire. And honestly, I'd only think a small, wealthy minority are like the second type of person described. Just look at all of the topics about 4 and 6 packs being preferable to bombers/750s.

With what people pay for special releases, I would have thought fewer are concerned about prices though. Maybe they're selective in caring about prices for certain styles and such.

Every person without an unlimited amount of money cares about price, to a point. (and frankly some people with nearly limitless funds still purchase based on price)
