Sorry? I'm not sure what was particularly un-adult-like about my post, or what made you think I don't grasp the concept of money.

I'm going to assume that your comment was in reference to the post I replied to originally.

Not sure how I'd vote. I buy 3-4 sixers each week at $9 average. And maybe I'll buy a $6 bomber ever other week on top of that. So as a family man with bills to pay, yeah I spend too much on beer, but on the other hand I can afford it. I've only once paid for a whale on E-Bay ... so i usually don't go after high dollar beers. I think my vote is it's all relative ...

    no. this specifically:

Trust me, I'm no fan of money.

i might have written the same thing 15 years ago when i was in college so i guess i can see your perspective based on where you are in your life but, trust me, things will change. cheers.

Ah, no I meant it in a very broad, political sense. Money's nice, but I have issues with capitalism—I'll just leave it at that. (If anyone has angry responses for me, please feel free to BM me because this is waaaaay off beer-topic as it is, and I'd be happy to chat it up with anyone who's interested.)

I'm surprised most of the people here seem to believe there was an actual survey.

Price really does matter and it has impacted my beer purchases greatly. I seldomly buy from brewers who vastly inflate the price of their beer. Why spend spend $20 a bomber (Hoppin Frog Naked Evil) or $24 a four pack (Founders Devil Dancer) when you could buy TWO six packs of better valued (and better tasting) beer right next to it? Its just not worth it in my opinion.

Funny! But if you were gonna make up some BS survey data, wouldn't you want it to support your position a bit more solidly?

That's the truth. I've never seen anything remotely Craft centric on their Facebook feed. In fact... There are many days there isn't much that's even related to beer...unless you count pictures of scantily clad women with a corona attached to their hips. great tits and ass pics. But no craft beer.

If cost was that much of a factor then craft beer wouldn't sell in the US and nobody would buy macro in British pubs.In fact nobody would drink in a bar at all because the same stuff is available in the supermarkets at a fraction of the price.

Why spend $9 for a six pack of Great Lakes or $8 for a six pack of Sierra Nevada when you could buy a 30-pack of Keystone light for less?

Thats just being a little extreme, isn't it? Every time I make a comment about a certain brewery charging too much for their beer, people get all defensive and upset? Why??? Do people like paying $20 for one bomber of beer? Cause thats the impression I always get....

Man you should come to my town, we have parabolas for $50.00 in one store and for $16.00 in others. You're the kind of guy who would actually buy the $50.00 bottle right?

Sorry, but I don't understand why everyone's speaking in absolute terms. The craft beer market simply has its own set of price trends and thresholds, in large part due to its greater incorporation of value factors like flavor, different aesthetics, perceived value, prestige, etc. The macro market is not dictated by these factors, as much as the craft market.

So yeah, of course price matters in the craft market. It just has a different set of rules that don't easily translate to the macro market, hence this perception that money doesn't matter. It's all relative, and in this case craft prices are relative to a slightly different set (or maybe just a different arrangement) of value factors.

    Point is, it's relative—not absolute.

Yes, it's a bit of hyperbole, but I do hear that kind of talk from locals who don't understand why I'm not buying the cheapist beer on the shelf. Nobody wants to be overcharged, but there are certain special beers that I'm willing to pay more money for a bomber than I'd spend on a six-pack of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.
