need better trade bait, despite both beers being superior to substance. #hypetraine

 

IMO both Mastermind and HT should trade $4$ BB Sub is not impossible to find. You just have to be in Portland area on right day. Next time I get some I will trade you.

i know i'm probably in the minority here, but ht feels more like a "special occasion" beer, whereas the substance is a beer i could (and would like to) drink regularly.

 

IMHO: You're already drinking better beer, my friend.

 

I found Substance to be the weak little brother to Mastermind and HT - I won't go crazy trading for it. Overhyped!

 

Keep Mastermind and HF, had Substance over the week for the first time and it was good but not worth the hype/trade. Especially for those beers.

 

Agree with all of the above. You have the better beer already. Don't fall into the hype train on this one, the substance just is decidedly mediocre.

The Substance was good and fresh but honestly not worth loosing any sleep over. Not as good as HT but better than Mastermind. Not worth the feeling of being upset by not having it unless you're in the great state of Maine on vacation.

 

lol I don't agree with any of this. It's a great, unique and crushable IPA that's on par with both of those IPA's. I'd say the only downside is it fades much faster than heady. It changes into a different beer after 2 weeks in the fridge. Shoot me a message if you need any fresh cans, I'll hook you up man.

 

I don't lose sleep over any beer, but I did drive an hour each way for this...



So, yeah, I enjoy it. If you want a growler instead of cans just let me know...

 

What would you want for a growler? I have a keg of Carton Boat Beer I could send you a growler of.


How far south in Maine does this beer make it? May make a trip to southern Maine tomorrow

 

It's made it as far south as Wells, but no delivery this week except to the Bier Cellar in Portland.

 

I thought Substance was a slightly less good version of Be Hoppy. I'd buy it if it was easy to get but not sure what the hype is all about.

 

Not fair to compare Substance to MM/HT - different beers. Substance is more pale ale than DIPA; also don't listen to anybody, it's far and away the best beer coming out of Maine these days .... okay maybe except for Dinner ....

 

I had it on draft at The Black Birch some months back. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and I will eagerly drink more when I'm able. However, I'll stop way, way short of declaring it "far and away the best beer coming out of Maine". That is not nearly true for me. At all. Not even close.
