I am looking to make a trip out to "The Tap" in Haverhill, MA. I just wanted to see if anyone has been and how was your experience? That Solar Plexus double is out of this world.
It's an old school townie bar vibe for sure. The food is alright. I have always liked thier beer. The last time I went in they had a Taproom only NE style pale ale that was very good. Solar plexus is awesome. I thier Berliner intergalactic acid and have always found them to brew very very good lagers. It's worth a trip. Nice outside area too.
I think its awesome. Solar Plexus is killer and intergalactic is awesome. I had a great burger tgere too
Recently they've had some good modern-style hoppy beers on tap. They had a cloudy Pale Ale akin to Night Shift Whirlpool which was recently replaced by a tasty Mosaic IPA. Seemingly a bunch of sour beers available (which I don't really care for) but they usually have a lager or 2 on tap that are decent. They do a nice job with pub standards like burgers, sandwiches & nachos but not so hot with more adventurous fare.
I had a good time their a few months back. Inside seating has kind of divey/old school townie feel while the outdoor deck feels a bit more fresh and new. My (admittedly brief) impression was that the city is an old industrial center on the verge of rejuvenation and the two parts of the pub really reflect that dynamic. As for the beer, everything I had was good to very good with props to the Intergalactic Acid. Nice mix of styles.
Big fan of Solar Plexus..had a bunch of it at the last mass brewers guild beer fest. Tons of pith/mintyness with a big malty backbone, but also very soft and chewy. Very refreshing
I don't have much to add to what others have said. The Tap has been brewing beers for quite a while (15 years?) and makes solid brews. Prices and food are good too. I'm a fan of sitting on the deck on a nice summer day. If you're looking for parking, there's a lot behind the building the Tap is in. If that's full, there's a parking garage near the train station. Parking in Haverhill is very cheap. Just about across the street from the Tap is the Barking Dog Alehouse. They have some great beers on tap that are worth checking out when in the area.
