I don't know if there are any other techie geeks but I was surprised to see that Gizmodo had this up today. http://gizmodo.com/5941453/hydro-flask-vacuum-insulated-growler-review-big-cold-beer Looks pretty awesome.
This seems uniquely situated to trading, especially if you are in the habit of sending growlers back and forth with regular trading partners. Almost guaranteed not to break in transit. If it's anything close to leak proof, I'm sold.
I've heard complaints from several people that they have faulty seals and that carbonation escapes if they're agitated. Then again, I've also heard from several people that they kick ass and haven't have any issues. I guess what I'm saying is, feel free to buy one, but save the receipt in case you have to return it.
Luckily, in NC, all the brewery would have to do is slap a sticker on it and fill it up. No competing brewery labels to "deface". It's a small step up, but it counts!
Thing is cool. My issue is that it's $50. I can't imagine having to hold on to beer in blazing heat for far too long. Regular growlers don't make it more than a day at my place and it doesn't take long to make it to my fridge.
Looks way too similar to this Badboy...This also has a better name The Bräuler...Just like subpoenadeuces said, it's useless to us CA folks... Cheers!
For that price, no way... Its neat and all for the even from a "techie" view and I have worked in IT the world pre 3.11 but this is something more for those hipster db's. The thing just has no style... sorry
I have one and it works great. Mine was bought in Oregon from a brewpub so it is powdercoated and branded. The seal so far works great. It does keep the beer cold very nicely too! It is pricey but I think it was worth it.
Want.... much better for taking out in the woods etc and not having to worry about glass breaking. But I heard they weigh 2 lbs empty....
I have the solution to those of us in states that won't fill any other growlers but their own. By the growler listed above. Paint it with this - Just write the name of the brewery on the growler with some chalk before you go inside. Boom, a branded growler.
I have one of those growlers and it's pretty bad ass. I tested it twice. Once, I filled it and let it sit for two months in my fridge. When we drank it, it still had great carbonation and tasted great. The second test, I left it sitting out at room temp for 24 hours and the beer was still nice and chilled. It may cost a penny or two, but it a great way to keep any liquid nice and chilled for extended periods.
Oregon's all over the high end growler game. Check into the Brauler a little and you'll see what I mean. And the picture? Taken in the basement of Upright Brewing in Portland.
