Anyone ever mix a black and a white IPA to make a gray IPA?

I like The IPA, am often underwhlemed by The Black IPA and really dislike The White IPA. I do like to blend The Black IPAs with The White IPAs to make The Grey IPAs.

Long Trail has a new series out called the Farmhouse Series - several interesting seasonals including a White IPA (def. a hoppy witbier in this case) and a Rye IPA in 12oz. bottles. I'm not much of a hophead but the orange peel, coriander and hop combo was very enjoyable.

I agree. Wish it wasn't seasonal.

I like Accumulation, but I taste zero "white" in it. I consider white IPA to be a hopped up wit beer, Chain Breaker is a perfect example, Accumulation doesn't fit that mold. But for some reason NB decided to put white in its name.

Little sumpin wild is different than little sumpin sumpin- the latter is the white IPA and I'm pretty sure a white IPA is just a hopped up American wheat ale.

No, little sumpin wild is a Belgian ipa. Sumpin sumpin is just an ipa that has wheat in it, not a white ipa at all. White IPAs are hoppy witbier. Needs wit yeast to fit the bill.

Couple more votes for Accumulation, and Saranac here. I just had a Terrapin Dr Krunkles, and it was excellent. They consider it a Farmhouse IPA, and it's aged with white ash staves. Also, I agree that there is a difference between a White IPA and a Belgian IPA. The yeast is the key.

I like New Belgium Accumulation, but think it would make a better summer brew. No, a great summer brew. In the winter I prefer a darker, hairier, and boozy seasonal.

I didn't even catch the date, I do know it came from a brand new liquor store that just opened in my area less than 3 weeks ago. So I know it hasn't been sitting on their shelves long. But its not to say it had been sitting somewhere else. I just seen on the WBAYDN thread one or 2 days ago someone in Indiana had Reboot. so maybe its making its way here again.

Not all beers labeled as being White IPAs utilize Wit yeast strains. For example Sam Adams Whitewater uses the Sam Adams house ale yeast. Deschutes Chainbreaker uses a Trappist style yeast (Wyeast 3787).

I personally an unaware of a White IPA that lists they use a Wit yeast for brewing those beers. Do you have examples of White IPAs that list they use a Wit yeast to ferment them?

    Cheers!
