Sad state of affairs. At a Binny's, no less.

A couple years ago a distro was trying to pass off old HB Maibock. Saw it and pointed it out at one Binny's -- got a shrug.

Saw it at another and pointed it out and the beer manager got right on it -- called the distro and had them haul it off and replace it.

As is oft said, your mileage may vary.

I tried one of the old Tucher fests. Tasted really malty. I broke my rule of buying without doing research on dates. I will probably just drink it. The Dunkel Weiss was really tasty to me. Maybe it keeps better?

I guess on a positive tucher four packs don’t break the bank much but it sucks that stores sell year old beer, specially seasonal ones that come out new each year.

Stores are often at the mercy of bad distros trying to get an underhanded profit.

But yes, retailers owe it to their customers to be more aware of dates and freshness.

Anyone ever had Buoy Beer's Dunkel lager? I think its supreme. (I also work here so may be biased) I love offering a Dunkel to folks who are not sure what beer to order or are not sure what to pair their food with. It's got some versatility. It If you're in the OR/WA area check it out-

It's a thin drawer, it has raised ridges about as wide as a beer can. What else would I use it for?

Korbinian is a Doppelbock (Starkbier), not a Dunkel (Munich Dunkel style profile linked above).

This thread started with discussion of the style Munich Dunkel. Korbinian is, indeed, dark, but that's a descriptor of appearance -- not an identifier of style.

I've been a proponent of Sam Adams Dunkelweis in the past. It's not a style of beer I would drink often but in a seasonal pack with Octoberfest would be better than over done pumpkin beers.

Different style, but I do recall digging that one from Sam!

    Munich Dunkel

An old friend of Bavaria, Munich Dunkels are smooth, rich, and complex without being overly heady or heavy. They boast brilliant ruby hues from the large amounts of Munich malts used, and these malts also create a fuller-bodied beer. In addition, the decoction brewing process lends much depth and richness of flavor. Little to no hop aroma is detectable; the nose is dominated by malty notes of bread, nuts, and perhaps a touch of chocolate. Hop varieties used tend to be German Noble varieties like Tettnanger and Hallertau. Bitterness is often moderate, with just enough to balance out any sweetness.

    Dunkelweizen

Similar to a Hefeweizen, these southern German wheat beers are brewed as darker versions (Dunkel means "dark") with deliciously complex malts and a low balancing bitterness. Creamy and full-bodied, most Dunkelweizen are medium amber to amber-brown and appear slightly murky from the weizen yeast. Phenolic (clove) and fruity (banana, bubble gum) character will usually be present in the nose, and some examples may even taste like banana bread.

That's why I love Dunkelweizen cause I love banana bread. It makes for a good fall beer.

Yes!!!! My bad. I assumed everyone would read Munich Dunkel (never make assumptions). I love all of those dark German beer styles but I'd like to see more Munich Dunkel around as I would contend it is a dark beer that can be drank throughout the year, not just seasonally.
