Winter's Night is seasonal. Dunkel Platz is made year around.

Over the past few months I have enjoyed Enegren's Dunkel and Vienna. Too bad Enegren only has local destruction and its 300 miles away. :slight_frown:

Paulaner also sends over Hacker Pschorr Dark (their dunkel) in kegs. There are a few places in the Twin Cities that currently have it on tap.

Here's a pic I took of a half liter I enjoyed at a Hacker Pschorr beer dinner way back in 2017:

Here are a couple more favorites:

This was enjoyed during my first visit to the Hofbrauhaus:

Here's another from the Bavarian Alps. The brewery is next to the church/Abbey and it is such a beautiful spot.

I wonder if it's still being imported--the Twin Cities got a drop like two years ago and haven't seen it since.

If I had a dunkel, like right now, in my fridge, I would drink it.

    This is true.

I don't think so, or if they have I've never seen it. Same with Live Oak, they've done a lot of German styles but not Dunkel.

Dunkel is a nice style, but hard to come by. I've seen Warsteiner and Flensburger distributed here (Texas), but neither is actually from Bavaria.

A local brewery; Frankenmuth, brews “Brown Hound Dunkel” year round. I rate it slightly higher than most but it still maintains a “good” rating here on BA. I just appreciate having access to it outside the “season”. Cheers.

Bierstadt’s Dunkel is flawlessly to style & amazing IMO. I will say I’ve never felt their canned product, except the Helles, holds a candle to the on-site draft. This is especially true of the Slow Pour Pils. That doesn’t mean the cans aren’t good, or that I don’t buy the cans because they are and I very definitely do, because they’re better than anything else around.

    But: the draft!

They do currently have a Schwarzbier. Not exactly the same, I know. I don't carry it at my store, and not even sure it's available in package. I'm sure it's quite delicious.

Agree with OP. Dunkel is a respectable and clean enough style to drink year round. I would also add that a Schwarzbier could be added to this list. A lot of breweries are doing a good version of this. Anything darker & heavier and I'll wait until the colder months.

Last time I picked an order at Tree House I get a couple Dunkels - one oaked, one not. |They're excellent, as is everything they do.

I would love to see more Augustiner products imported to the U.S. I've never seen their Dunkel in my area.

I had the Ettaler once and it was a real treat. I’ve only bumped into it one time, but would love to buy it again. Interest in it must be pretty low, but it’s still being imported. B United has more bottles coming in a week.

Genuine Bavarian Dunkels seem to have an unusual quality to them that reminds me of fruity oxidation. Of course I could be picking up on genuine oxidation in imports (which would be the most obvious explanation), but it doesn’t seem to be as clear-cut as that. I’m not sure.

Excellent example! Though the label is confusing showing both Dunkel and Doppelbock. My assumption is that Dunkel refers to dark beers brewed a certain way and Doppelbock is the style here. Regardless Weihenstephaner is generally a can't miss brewer.

Aventinus (TAP6) is the best Doppelbock and still my favorite beer of all time. Weird seeing it in cans but the taste is the same. Damn now I'm craving darker maltier fair.
