Of Arrogant, Oaked Arrogant, and the Founders Bastards,

    my favorite is Dirty Bastard.

Want to get my hands on Lukcy, but too much beer in stock to buy anymore right now.

Founder's Backwoods Bastard will make the others seem thin. (And I'm an Arrogant Bastard fan from way back.)

My question: Does "Bastard" actually denote anything? Does it provide information of meaning to the beer buyer?

My favorite part is the irritatingly nondescript labels.

    My .02...

    Dirty Bastard
    Oaked AB
    Arrogant Bastard
    Backwoods Bastard (aged, not fresh)
    Lukcy Bastard
    Double Bastard

(not that any of them are in any way bad)

Honorable mentions to Jon Snow and Blind Bastard (homebrew)...

Actually did a back to back to back of Lucky, Double, and Arrogant earlier this week. Double Bastard still ranks as my favorite.

I think my favorite is Lukcy Basartd. I had all but Oaked a couple weeks ago. I may have an oaked today. But so far my rankings would be like this...

    Lukcy Basartd
    Double Bastard
    Arrogant Bastard

The dry hopping over that big malt backbone is what does it for me.

    Pooh-Bah

    Oaked Arrogant
    Standard Arrogant
    Lukcy Basartd
and then Double Bastard (fresh it's too hot)
BUT.... Put a year of cellaring on the Double Bastard and it's heaven.

I might have to try oaked again. The oak flavor wasn't very pronounced when i last tried it (basically nonexistent).

The oak in LB was amazing!

I haven't tried this years DB but i noticed my old bottle says 10.5% abv and this years says 11.2%. Anyone notice a difference in taste?

I haven't had a Double Bastard in years, but just popped a 2011 and 2012 in the fridge yesterday for a side-by-side at some point this week.
Pretty excited to give this one a try again while there are still plenty on the shelves. I'd guess I will be putting a few in the cellar for a couple years

oh god the bastards are amazing, i did an all bastard tasting with arrogant(original and oaked), double, lucky, dirty and backwoods for my friends on a surprise visit to their house. also having all of those in stock and backwoods on tap at my store made quite a few people happy(my self included hehehe). theres still a magnum of double bastard at our kitty hawk store, if no one picks it up this holiday im snagging it up for my birthday in january

personal favorite is still a tie between the lucky and the backwoods. even though they are so different those beers are like sex to my tastebuds

    Was the 2011 10.5%?, i don't know what year my bottle's from.

Let me know how the comparison turns out.

    2011 is 10.5%
    2012 is 11.2%

The release year is printed right above the barcode (at least on 2011 and 2012)

I will be definitely post about the comparison as well

Yeah, i had a feeling the date was printed on the bottle, i was just to lazy to get up and check. Lol

Thnx, look forward to hearing how 2011 is with some age. I plan on keeping my 2012 3L for a couple years to see how it turns out.

    EDIT: My bottle's from 2011

Lukcy Bastard was my favorite of the Bastard Series and Arrogant Bastard is a close second. I don't drink them a lot though because boy do those bastards **** your palate!
