    . . . until Jan 4th: http://www.thermoworks.com/Inventory-Reduction-2016

Thermapen® on sale for $71, which is a pretty good deal. For the must-have-new-gadget brewer they have a new model with a rotating display (eliminates head twisting). It's been a while since the Forum had a "is the Thermapen really worth it" discussion . . . now is as good a time as any.

Just purchased the MK4 a few weeks back. I went with this model due to its waterproffness vs water-resistance. Looking forward to putting it to good use next weekend. Cheers!

I have the RT600C (link) and I like it a lot. I use it for cooking, brewing and smoking. Not quite as nice, I'm sure.

Slightly off-topic, but my kids bought me an iGrill mini (link) for christmas. I guess that means they like meat more than beer

I have the thermopop, and I love it. I may have to get that chef's helper while its on sale though.

The Thermapen is awesome; $71 is a great deal. I use mine for brewing and grilling. Just my 2 cents. Cheers!

@PortLargo, thank you for starting this thread. I went to the link and saw that the RT301WA was on sale for 16 bucks. That is an awesome deal!! I already have one but at this price I purchased a second one as a spare.

The RT301WA takes longer (6 seconds) to measure the temperature but that is fast enough for me.

    Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year back at you . . . I have the 301 also as a back-up. It is as accurate as Big Brother Thermapen but its display faces up (not toward side of mash tun). Good, fast, & cheap . . . tough combination to beat.

Damn it!!! Wish I'd seen this before dropping so much money on the MK4. This one's waterproof, and 5-6 seconds is nothing. I may have to get this for a spare as well...

So, you just ordered the MK4?

I think you will be happy with your purchase. I have never heard anybody who owned the Thermopen to be disappointed with it. When grilling meats having an instant read is a plus since you do not have to expose your hand to high heat for long.

    Cheers!

I ordered the MK4 a few weeks ago. It was still on sale then, but didn't take the time to research their other options, since this one was so highly regarded.

I decided to splurge after realizing that the thermometer I used on my last brew day was off by 7*F!!! Never want to deal with that again.

I highly recommend the ChefAlarm leave in probe. Not only can it tell you if the mash water is too high, it can also beep when its too low.

And it is essential for prime rib.

I just bought a Thermopop. I'm very happy with it and it was <$40.

I have bought 2 of the Lavatools Javelin PRO over the past 2 months, one for my mom and the other for my mother in law. I used the one for my mother in law over Thanksgiving and Christmas and found I like it better than my Taylor 9306N that I have had for over 5 years

I never would have believed I'd ever say something like that about a $95 thermometer, but I agree, 100%. If this ever fails, I'll buy another one just like it.

I have the Javelin PT12 on recommendation from Serious Eats. Not instant-instant but 1.5 seconds isn't bad. Works great for everything.
