Last night I had an issue with my therminator, it took me 40 mins to fill 6 gallons of chilled wort into my carboy. The valve from the kettle was almost all the way open but the flow rate into the carboy was like a drip. I use a pond pump to circulate cold water, it has a rating of 5 gpm. Does anyone have a clue as to why I would have this issue? Thanks in advance.
Sounds like it's clogged somewhere. Do you have a screen of some sort in the kettle to keep hops, etc out of the valve? I've found that reversing the flow momentarily usually unclogs it.
Must have been clogged. I cleaned it up last night after I brewed and this morning I ran a test batch with water and it worked fine.
What is your typical cleaning routine with your therminator? Just curious to know what type of maintenance (or lack there of) and or brewing scenario (what style of beer were you making?) would have actually led to the situation you encountered. I wouldn't consider my own cleaning routine with it to be ideal, but I've been using mine for a couple of years now without issue. I'm always worried though, since I know I probably could do a better job and since people always warn about the therminators weak spot being the inability to open it up for thorough cleanings when needed.
