I was recently gifted a megapot 1.2 for my birthday from my parents. I did my first 5 gal batch today and I don't yet have a wort chiller. My megapot has a fermenters favorites thermometer and a ball valve. Can I put the kettle in an ice bath or would that ruin the thermometer. Apologies if this is a dumb question or has already been answered. I couldn't find any similar threads

The dial part of the thermometer probably isn't intended to be waterproof. Contact the manufacturer to get a certain answer.

Good advice. Some thermometers are fine getting wet in the normal cleaning routine but fully submerged is a different story.

I've submerged my cheapo thermometers for 10 years now in a solution of Trichloromelamine with no ill effects other than mashing at 125*F : ) ...just kidding (the 125*F part)...they seem to calibrate just fine...YMMV
