Things I learned from Founders/Hohensteins tonight

    I was at the bar at Tilia tonight for the Founders CBS breakfast dinner tonight, sitting next to a Hohensteins rep (or 3) and had a chance to chat with them and Founders' Dave Engbers. All of them were very personable and chatty, and Dave even gave me a sip of his Left Hand Smoke Jumper, which I'd yet to try. Very cool. What I learned:

    1. Since Founders is undergoing massive expansion, even with increased distribution, we will see more barrel-aged and limited offerings here next year. Brewing as of one month ago in increased volumes.
    2. Dave remarked, semi off-hand, that we will see All Day IPA next year.
    3. Couldn't pry what next big bottle offering might be. Reps weren't sure.
    4. Green Flash will be distributed in MN in the next year, per Hohensteins rep.

    Feel free to add/correct/elaborate on any of these points. All in all, great time at Tilia. It's a great little restaurant with an interesting tap list and fabulous food.

    My friend and I overheard the rep say that only 4 CBS kegs made it to the state (5.5 gallons I believe) and they drank one at their holiday party. One keg was at Tilia tonight, one at Happy Gnome tomorrow and who knows where the third one is...

    Mackenzie. For their big annual Founders party. Rep told me they requested 50 kegs of KBS as well, and got 12

    ha. distributor. everything sounds so good when you say it to yourself. i'm trying to imagine 50 kegs of kbs in one spot...

    I heard (from an incredibly reliable source, who will remain unnamed) that there were six kegs. One was consumed at the Hohenstein's party. Either way, very few remain.

    ooh...a classic reliable source limited keg amount controversy! perhaps the other two are at target field?

    Haha... No, the other two are at my condo. I will be tapping one soon and will sit on the other until the holidays.:stuck_out_tongue:

    The other two are actually in my garage. Hence, my unwillingness to disclose my source! Tickets for ungertaker's CBS fest can be purchased on my website. :wink:

    *Disclaimer: There is no guarantee that attendees will actually receive Founder's CBS. In the event that Founder's CBS is not available upon arrival, the television network CBS will be airing in my garage and I will have bourbon and maple syrup on hand to supplement the beer you bring.

    not sure. rep said 'their big annual founders party.' last date i could find was sep 30, 2010, so maybe around then? They also had special founders tappings the week of abr 2011

    I am a fan of Green Flash too, but it was one of the few remaining breweries that I can get during my frequent trips to Missouri and can't get here. I feel oddly bittersweet about them coming here.

    I might prefer them also if i lived in the twin cities, but I believe Hohensteins feels that anything south of the cities must be in Iowa, and therefore has no interest in distributing there. Except for Andy's Liquor and Whistle Binkies...
