I have seen something similar online for high end wine cellars. So it seems like the manufactures could expand their product line relatively easily.

When code dates are just done poorly that it's half off on the bottom of cans and it's usually the part you actually need to read. Also no code dating exist and is for suckers. I mean what's the real issue that you can't even get a code on your bottle or can? "enjoy by" the only enjoy by I want to see is stone. I'd rather know how old my beer is and not when they tell me it's fine and dandy till; when in reality it's not going to be prime until that date.

I don't have a problem with the beer itself, just the overall attidude beer drinkers as a whole are developing. The constant hunt for whales and the overlooking of some really stellar mainstream beers. Don't get me wrong, whales are fun to hunt for, but not all the time. Embrace the readily available beers, and especially, beers local to your area.

    I totally agree.
The term "craft beer" is rapidly reaching the point where it's a consumer warning rather than an indicator of quality.:grinning:

Breweries need to stop suing each other for stupid shit. Craft breweries are under enough attack from BMC, they shouldn't be fighting over barely-similar logos and other nonsense.
As far as products, I'd like a wine cooler but actually designed for beer cellaring. That way you don't pay thousands of dollars for a glorified fridge that doesn't even have its space optimized for the most efficient storage of upright bottles.

It really bugs me that a lot of breweries these day put their beer in 750 ML bottles or even smaller stand alone bottles than that. Almost 80 percent of time, it's really not worth it. This is not to say ill never but bombers because sometimes do, but it's usually pretty rare or a special occasion. Basically, I wish brewries gave us a better bang for our buck. In my opinion, the only brewery that has given us a better bang for a buck and listened to it's fans are Sixpoint. Kudos to Shane Welch and co. for doing said things. I will always support that brewery.

I was saying the same thing to my 10-year-old at a local beer store the other day. She just shook her head and gave me that "oh, dad!" look.

Bottle allocation in bottle shops strictly based on total sales and not length of distribution. Sometimes a shop has been distributing a companies beer since the beginning but doesn't get anything good anymore because bars just kill it on draft sales.

Not sure If I could give you any ideas but there are few things that do bug me about craft beer....

    1. Getting weak batches or off-flavors. This seems to happen too often with craft beer.

    2. Breweries not putting the style on the label. Sometimes all you get is the name of the beer on the label, when they do this I honestly have no idea what I'm buying unless I just look it up on the internet. But most of the time I don't have internet access when I'm beer hunting.

    3. No date on the bottle or using a stupid date code.

    4. The IPA craze! Don't get me wrong I like IPAs but to be honest, the malt forward beers should be getting a lot more attention. Malt forward beers are much more complex than those super bitter hop bombs.

well.. that's about it for now... I might come up with something else later.

The freshness app is a great idea, but what's in it for the breweries? Unless they're motivated to do this, it'll never happen.

I guess maybe they're concerned about people getting the wrong impression by drinking old beers. But wouldn't this also potentially cut into their sales?

Traditional beer styles are largely the product of decades/centuries of practice and are a representation of culture. Brewers in a specific region eventually form a consensus on how to deal with real life constraints and certain homogenous profiles develop. There is an emphasis on communal accomplishments and conservation.

"Craft beer" has a pretentious connotation. Every brewer thinks they are going to push style envelopes by experimenting haphazardly. Everyone wants to be innovative and "genius". It is an ego-centric movement that fails to take into consideration that no one person will accomplish very much. Everybody is standing on the heads of whoever came before them. Look at the main style produced by the American craft movement, the American IPA. This style has evolved over the last 40 years due to agricultural conditions, political conditions, and the tastes of the masses.

The mindset of a brewer making the first tequila barrel aged, African cucumber infused sour stout is very different than that of the one making Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Rodenbach Grand Cru or even Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout.

My advice to brewers is this: modern beer will evolve gradually at its own pace, stop trying to push the envelope artificially. Value the tastes of everyone. Take over the beer market entirely, try to make a beer that appeals to those drinking Bud and Corona. Just do it BETTER.

Agreed on everything. It also bugs me that people seem to look down on Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada and Deschutes as being for being too commercial.

It's like when a brewery is small people promote the shit out of it, then when they get popular and become big they shun them for it.
