Has anyone else tried these beers? Drinking Rise To The Top Cream Ale now. I am pleasantly surprised by how good this is. I put it on par with Spotted Cow, this one being a bit drier. There are a couple other varieties available (black IPA and brown ale) as well but this looked like the most refreshing on this horribly hot day.

I guess if I wanted to add this beer to the database, I need to add Third Street as a new brewery as they appear completely separate from Cold Spring Brewery.

Rather than an entirely new company, Third Street Brewhouse is both a physical and a family/branding extension of the original brewery.

Language on both the Cold Spring and Third Street websites seems to indicate this as well-- E.g.:
There's other language with respect to the ongoing construction, and the main/splash page at the Cold Spring site depicts both the old brewhouse (an black and white photo) and the exterior of the new, Third Street Brewhouse:[IMG]
Compare that with this video -- and this one (YouTube links).

    It's a little confusing, eh?

P.S. You might have to turn your speakers -up- for that second video .

Ok. Does Third Street use their own brewery equipment completely separate from Cold Spring and is that the beer packaged as Third Street? What is going on up there:slight_smile: ?

Brand new multimillion dollar brewhouse. They brought in some grizzled vets to run the thing. Expect quality beer.

Well after conversations and even more confusion, I decided to put in an admission to add Third Street Brewhouse as a new brewery. I will let the powers to be decide on this matter.

I know i read somewhere that the Cold Spring beers will be brewed at 3rd street now (John Henry, Cold Spring IPA, Weiss, etc) Maybe they are only doing contract stuff at the old brewery now? 21st Amendment alone puts out a ton of product, along with all the lemonaids and energy drink stuff they crank out.

I made the trip down I-94 last Saturday for the open house, probably about 1 1/2 hour drive from Uptown Mpls. Well worth it, the new brewhouse is magnificant, polished stainless steel everywhere, fully automated it looked like all you have to do is push a button and the beer comes out so why they have need 3 acclaimed brewers I don't know! Taphouse is gorgeous, lots of brickwork and sturdy darkwood tables. Tried all three beers - nothing earth shattering but competent, I liked the Black Ipa best (I think it's slightly ironic that 21 Ammendment's Back In Black is brewed in the old Cold Spring brewery next door). Didn't care for the cream ale - too bland for my taste (but that's Ok) they are trying to replicate New Glarus' Spotted Cow. Lost Trout Brown I thought was pretty tasty. Would I buy again? Probably not but at a $7.99 a sixer price point I think a lot of Summit drinkers will. Great deal on gear - picked up 3 tshirts for only $25 and a brewer's shirt for $25. Bought a sixer of Bitter Neighbor in a St Cloud liquor store on the way home - should be hitting the Twin Cities stores next week, distributed by Bernick's.

    Cheers!

It has been decided. It has been added as a new MN brewery.

With a 100 degree day I thought I'd give the cream ale a try. I'm pretty impressed. Very apt for the time and temp. Nice little grain crunch and soft but evident hopping. A tasty low alcohol beer.

The Feds seem to consider it the same brewing company- same "Plant Registry/Basic Permit/Brewers No." - BR-MN-REF-1 -used for the new beers' TTB COLA's as for previous beers brewed by Cold Spring and their application filled out by CS as being from "COLD SPRING BREWING COMPANY" and then "THIRD STREET BREWHOUSE (Used on label)".

All I can say is, bring it up with the Bros. They, or the beerfly guide(do we still have them?) approved it even when I added some concerns as notes when I made the submission.

I can tell ya the 21A brews are all on the new system as well. The old system is doing other clear malt production for non-beer brands, but that will most likely be phased out as well.

It may look like you push a button and beer comes out, but that's far from the truth. It takes a lot of knowledge/experience/expertise to operate a state of the art brewhouse with all of that process technology. Things break/go wrong, and when they do, you need to understand everything from automation, mechanical engineering, fluid dynamics, etc. etc. etc. on top of the brew process to make it work.

    Cheers,

I've now tried them all and they are all solid brews. Glad to see something tasty coming out of Cold Spring! I'm also excited to see what they add to their line up, maybe crowd source a style d
    From the locals?

I think Back in Black is very different from Bitter Neighbor. All I got from Back in Black was toasted oats, It has turned me off from trying other 21st beers. Maybe I'll give them another shot now that it's on the new brew house.

I'm also curious why they chose bottles over cans for the 3rd street line? Maybe to sell the "craft" quality of the beers, I'd love to see them can someday!

Tried the Bitter Neighbor (also having one now) and Rise to the Top this weekend. Both were good but not great, not a big Cream Ale fan so didn't have high exceptions for the Rise to the Top but really wanted the Black IPA to be exceptional because I like the style, just not sure I like it enough for it to become a regular in my fridge.

Bought some Bitter Neighbor after work. Im really starting to like black IPAs. This one is as good an example as I've ever had. Slight roast and lots of hops. Very nice. Looking foward to digging into 3rd Streets other offerings.

Haven't had hop in the dark but I prefer Stone's Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale to it, Bitter Neighbor just isn't has hoppy as I'd prefer.

Hop In The Dark is a superior beer. Bitter Neighbor, unlike Sublimely Self-Righteous, you can taste the black malt instead of just hops.

I cant imagine Bitter Neighbor can compare to Black Top(same price too), but ill have to grab a single and find out!

Black top is one of the best IPA's i have had, 'black' or not.
