Anyone check them out yet? Guess they've been open a week or so. Checked them out on my way back down from Barrelworks this weekend. Nice space. They had 5 beers. Thought 2 were pretty good. Apparently they bought Bruery's old brewhouse, and Pat Rue is part owner/investor on some level. I'll reserve judgement till they get settled in and don't want to give them a bad review off the bat, but I will say the crowd was kind of annoying there. I guess that's Santa Barbara. It was like Montana Ave. on steroids. Pretty much all wealthy, preppy white families - including lots and lots of kids running around. I felt like I was in an Abercrombie Fitch ad. I think part of it is that it's connected to other businesses and restaurants in the same area, so you get spill over. In any case, don't want to knock them for that. Yoga moms need to have a beer too. But if you are in the "would prefer not to have shit loads of strollers and toddlers" camp, be advised. Makes me appreciate Highland Park Brewing that much more
Outside of the beer people, the ultra hipster crowd at HPB is the exact opposite of moms with kids. But i'm not sure which one is more bothersome to me. Actual moms wearing mom jeans or hipster girls wearing mom jeans ;D.
I just came here to start a thread about this place. It was pretty empty both times I went, so I can't speak to the clientele. I thought one of the beers was fair (though it was 3%, and my main complaint was watery taste), two were average, one was very good (the lager)... but one was fucking phenomenal: their Walkabout stout, brewed with oranges, vanilla bean, and cocoa. I'm not easily impressed by adjuncts, but this is gonzo. Also, worth pointing out that this place, maybe thanks to the Fess Parker connection, is going to be doing a lot with wine barrels, and those beers just aren't ready yet. And apparently 2018 is the year to circle on your calendars for when the lambic program will finally be bearing fruits. In the meanwhile, get Walkabout while you can...
Stopped in Saturday after Telegraph event. Nice bundle-stop with Telegraph given 0.5 mile proximity... Location was indeed swanky hip boutique-y, but s'all good. And there was a baby shower going on and little kids and animals roaming the place. Beer was solid for start-up. The orange chocolate stout was pulled off nicely without being a mess as that's a tough combo; and I thought the raspberry Berliner, L'Eveaire was quite crushable, didnt' find it watery at all.
that's when i was there. it must have been the baby shower crowd that i was there with (i didn't realize it was a baby shower). hopefully there won't be a baby shower going on there the next time i visit. or, at any brewery i visit, for as long as i live
I like wealthy white people as much as the next guy. I just prefer a little diversity is all, if I'm choosing a place to hang out. I just feel a little out of place in an environment filled with polo shirt-wearing yacht club gentlemen. Though I would go to a place like that if the beer was good enough. Baby shower is a dealbreaker though
Space is really nice here. Of the 5 I tasted I enjoyed the Walkabout the best. Lots of seating available both inside and outside. They also take outside growlers for anyone wondering
Kind of weird to have a party celebrating the fact that someone has to stop drinking for 9 months in order to have a baby at a brewery, no?
I didn't do a thorough walk-thru, but the space seems like it's part of a schwanky hipster mixed use site. Looked like there was an artsy goods store across the courtyard. So maybe dad-to-be was like, "hey wifey, how about we host your baby shower at that location with the artsy goods store?"...
Looked like it was even more than just that when I walked through. Also seemed like there was a wine bar/tasting room and restaurant in the complex as well. Everything opens up into the courtyard and it looked like it served as kind of a common area for all the businesses there. Pretty cool setup, but yeah, definitely swanky and catering to that sort of crowd.
Here's an interview with the owner, in case anyone is interested in some more background info: http://foodgps.com/interview-kris-parker-third-window-brewing/
I only got the chance to try their orange/chocolate stout at the Bruery's anniversary. It was pretty solid, I'll have to make my way up there eventually.
The orange/chocolate stout and raspberry berliner were my surprisingly rad beers of the Bruery Anny. Definitely on my list to check out on the way up to FWIBF.
Stopped by last Friday when I was in SB. Did a mini brew tour of Pure Order, Telegraph and Third Window. I agree on the walkabout stout. Not normally a huge fan of orange and chocolate, but it was a pretty interesting beer and well done I thought.
I've been back here a few more times, and I have to say, they are just absolutely crushing it. I still haven't had a problem with the crowd, but then, I go to this kind of place for the beer, not the people. Sadly, Walkabout is on the verge of kicking, and won't return any time soon, if ever. Luckily, you can drown your sorrows with any of the three or four other outstanding beers currently on tap.
