Recently I had my first Mexican Cake and I found myself saying, "this beer would be perfect if only the habenero wasn't so intense." Are there beers that you would prefer if an adjunct wasn't so pronounced or was deleted altogether?

Additionally are there any beers that would be perfect to you if only something you feel is missing were to be added?

I feel Westy 12 would be prefect (5/5 rating) if it was a little heavier, still an amazing brew.

Smoking Wood would be perfect if there was more Smoke and more Rye to balance the sweetness. Still one of my favorite beers of all time tho.

There's a lot of beers that I think could benefit from being "thicker". Long Ireland Breakfast Stout was really delicious, just needed some heaviness to it and it would have been great. A lot of barrel aged beers (stouts mostly) have the same problem imo.

Very good point, just felt it was the only "flaw" with westy.

Maine Beer Co's Lunch would be perfect if it wasn't 8 bucks for a 16.9 oz. and Cigar City's Jai Alai would be perfect if it was available in New England.

Tastewise, if DFH decided to age their WWS before they bottled it, it would be arguably the best stout out there.

Father Nelson if only the aroma was just a bit more intense
Vanilla Noir if only it were just a little less infected
Old Stock Cellar Reserve if only it wasn't so damn expensive
Central Water's BB Stout if only it were just a bit thicker in body

when I have a beer like citra mantra I think to myself , this has great citrus hop flavor... man this would be a great beer if it was an ale and didnt have that awful lager finish.

This might be hard to explain, but when I have a "juicy" IPA I like it to almost feel like I'm biting down on the fruit when I drink it. So I guess that would be bigger mouthfeel. Fresh Squeezed would be perfect if it had a bigger mouthfeel, and maybe a bit more citrus. It's very pineapple/mango heavy.

Dark Lord would be a great RIS if it didn't taste like table sugar was added to a stout so......less sweet I guess.

Also before anyone tells me its better aged, I've had like 3 different vintages as far back as 2011 and it was still terrible. Luckily, I didn't buy or traded for any of them.

I think WW Stout being aged would be amazing. Already one of my favorite beers! Of course...then it would be $20 a bottle instead of 10 :grimacing:

I loved the heat on Mexican Cake, especially as it warmed. It would be perfect in my opinion if it had a slightly thicker mouthfeel, like Huna or Dork Lord.

I had the privilege of trying Jack Daniels barrel aged Mexican Cake last weekend. That beer was absolute perfection!
