So is this year's vintage the onion bomb it was last year?

Ahhh shit.. don't tell me that.

    I don't want $20 worth of onions.

Glad I heard this was a possibility..hate oniony dipas...I think I'm over-sensitive to that onion flavor anyway so this one probably wouldn't interest me. Hoptimum I thought was an 'onion bomb'.

Conversely, I love tons of onions in any and every kind of food.

I'm happy to report 2012 Devil Dancer is nothing like the 2011 "onlon batch". It's drinking very good now, no need to sit on this one.

I still have 2 bottles from last year in my fridge, I wonder if I should keep waiting. I am going to break open a 2012 tonight and see whats up. Right after this Belgian Blonde ale.. Cant be ruining my palate this early:grinning:

DAMN, Devil Dancer is so damn good this year, and noticeably 500% clearer than last year. True hopheads will not be disappointed. It is still a love/hate beer as it always has been though. I am tempted to have another but it is a palate punisher lmao

I missed last year's batch, but don't remember tasting onions in 2010 and the fresh one I drank earlier tonight was quite tasty and did not ring onion to me (the lacing is awesome -- still clinging to the side of my dirty glass hours later). Then again, maybe I'm just not sensitive to the oniony character of summit(?) hops, so I dunno.

True story. I have now had it on tap and in bottles and find this years to be much better than last. Very heavy on the hop resin flavor but a bit cleaner bitterness. No onion or garlic detected. Drinks much better than previous vintages out of the gate.

I also noticed how much clearer it was this year. This may be why it was smoother. I still have bottles from last year in the fridge, and there is a noticeable hop sediment caked to the bottom of the bottles. Hardly any sediment this year.

I tend to have an issue with Founders use of Summit hops. I like Double Trouble but the bitterness is a bit "dirty" for me. I never got the onion and garlic last year but there certainly was the dirty, abrasive hop flavor that I do not care for. IIRC the Summit was swapped for Bravo this year and there is a noted difference.

There could be something to the brewing process this year and the clarity of the body that ultimately lends itself to an improved flavor but at this point I will comment based on information that has been passed along. Either way I think the current version is an improvement over last years.

Just had a bottle last night, way better than I remember having it 2 years ago. Good stuff, just too expensive here.

My first year trying it, so nothing to compare to. No onion flavor that I can detect. Although the beer had me confused as it tasted more like an overly hopped American barleywine

Hey OP, yeah you, one of my best beer drinking buddies...didn't believe me last night?

Not a hint of onion any where in this year's DD -- drinking divine!

So glad there is no onion flavor. Least favorite flavor I've ever noticed in some IPAs. I love onions almost always, just not in a liquid format.

I hate onions in beer, absolutely the worst, Gubna is the king though, I wouldn't take a 4 pk for free. Had a Bramble last night on tap, and was pleasantly surprised, came on like it was going to be a tad too sweet, then bam a bitter dry finish. I like it, never had an oak IPA.
