I thought it was pretty lackluster compared to last years. Way more boozy and less fruit flavors, also very dry. I remember reading the current label and it saying it was only aged on fruit for 3 months. I don't have an older label but I seem to recall it being aged for up to 6 months on the same fruit with better results.

It was still way better than the Grand Met which was a beast of a beer. Damn wish they took the time to age it longer since I remember really liking it and drinking through a case. This year seems to be one and done.

Can anyone confirm this lack of quality?

Matt (he's @voodoobrewery) is really good about responding on twitter if you want to ask him whether it was aged differently this year.

The label for our VLC has never changed and the aging process for the beer has remained unchanged as well. Thanks for your interest in our beer! Cheers!

google alerts are helpful for things like this!

also, please keep in mind that since we use 100% real oregon raspberries and michigan cherries, as their harvests change, that change will also be reflected in the beer to a certain extent. also vlc is a beer that we produce year round, not once a year. but due to the extended aging process, we can't meet the constant demand for it, so there may be times throughout the year when it may not be available.

Thanks for the quick response Matt. Must have been the Grand Met since I remember this beer being very good and now it's not worth the $8.99 a bottle. That or a change in the fruits since they are not as pronounced as last years version so I assumed the beer wasn't aged as much.

    Nothing against you guys.

Ow well the "Big Black Voodoo Daddy" is still as great as ever getting my highest rating of every beer I ever had! I got two in the fridge for special occasions.

Interesting. I had it for the first time a few weeks ago and thought the fruit flavors really came through nicely, and don't remember it being boozy at all (nothing to compare it to though, obviously).

I'm not sure if it was an older bottle or not though, so that might have something to do with it.

This is one of the reasons why I like and respect Matt...where else (othern than twitter too) will the brewer respond to questions about their beer. VooDoo is one of the best kept secrets IMO...so forget you ever heard about them.
