Now this is a good comment. But we have to hope there is someone who will take it on?

    You don't really mean that

Since we were talking Victoriana Criminology
how Jack the Ripper was mean't to have misspelt the graffiti he left at the crime scenes to throw detectives of him being educated gentry.

You should make some, it'll be exactly the same as the original stuff!

This has brought back some old memories lol

Heading into Manchester city centre on the bus as a young lad I used to pass an exposed pub wall
that had 'Thomas hardy Ale' in ten foot letters
and with my dad being in CAMRA from the start
and I had rescued all the good beer guides etc out of the bin to look through
I imagined that when I was old enough I would get off
the bus and have some there

Thanks for trying to push 'em in the right direction but please don't let this thread get your blood pressure up to a dangerous level. Who knows? The whole "project" might fall flat on its face.

I reckon you should pass on to the guys at Rooie Dop - I bet they'd have a good stab at it.

I agree i have got a bit carried away...my apologies to all involved..I can see my original suggestion of Brewdog being a suitable brewer to take on any future production of Thomas Hardy ale as a bit unrealistic after some re-thinking and consideration...though as a relatively small brewer and with the flexibility and expertise in brewing all sorts of weird and wacky high abv beers i naturally assumed they could take on a great legend like Thomas Hardy ale....but on relfection i see why so many have ridiculed my post...i guess i set myself up for the flack!

No hard feelings on my comments to anyone and i apologise for getting heated and retaliatory..it wasn't very mature of me..

Ouch. But a valid point. And the flexibility to have no consistency batch upon batch.

From the very sad moment Eldridge Pope stop brewing in Dorchester close to 20 years ago Thomas Hardy's Ale has been living on its past reputation. IMHO opinion it should never be brewed again by anyone. Unless you can travel back in time and prevent the closure.

Can't see Scoops going to the trouble. He's too smooth for that. And besides, he's full of pie tonight.

I was quite surprised by the recipe. And how much it changed between the first brew in 1967 and the 1980's version. But I don't see why it couldn't be brewed by any competent brewery. It's not that complicated.

I wonder if after the Dorchester Brewery closed they kept the fermentation temperature too low? Eldridge Pope let it get up to 84ยบ F.
