I remember going on a tour here a few years back and leaving with the thought that the best beer brewerd there was a stout they contracted out from another brewery. In the past few months i have had #nofilter, ode to bumpy (who I remember from that visit), double #nofilter, and now super duper double citra. It is amazing how much better they have gotten! Their ipas can go toe to toe with anyone in CT and dare i say New England. Super duper double citra might be their magnum plus, phenomenal beer! Has anyone else tried it yet?
I believe the man behind those recipes (Jeff Pasquale) is now at City Steam. And he already released a hazy Pale and a DIPA in his new role...
Here a just a few of the New England breweries I feel there IPA's DO NOT go toe to toe with. Tree House, Trillium, NEBCO, Bissell Brothers, Austin Street, Battery Steel, Stoneface, Fiddlehead, Foam, Jack's Abbey, Alchemist, Hill Farmstead, Mast Landing, Zero Gravity, etc............I could keep going...
I had 12/27 cans of #nofilter that were excellent. Thought the appearance, aroma, taste and mouthfeel were all improved from earlier batches. Then had a canning in Feb and it was disgustingly turbid, catty and dull. I did enjoy my 4 pack of Ode to Blumpy. I haven’t had their Helles is years - remember it being an authentic and quality version. Still true?
Fairway IPA is a very good beer and perfect for the golf course. 5% 'session' IPA that has got some really great Citra flavor. I buy that more than any other offering. I find No Filter and Double No Filter to be too sweet for my liking.
It seems that every brewery that is deemed as not good or mediocre does not brew ipas then they start brewing hazy ipas, then they are declared a better brewery. Are these breweries really better or is it because they now brew hazy ipas, which are more popular and/or easier to make.
Many many brewers and years ago. Those 1 L bottles were cool. Imp Porter was great too. All done under the watch of Paul Davis. I actually still have some old marley barleywines from his era at Thomas Hooker....maybe i crack one for Easter!
Paul Davis is brewing at Stark in Manchester, NH now, I believe. I was in about a year ago, and had a wonderful hefeweizen. I'm not up there as much as I used to be, but hope to see some dopplebocks and baltic porters, among other styles, from him there.
I drank a dangerous amount of the Liberator Dopplebock when Paul Davis was there. What an awesome beer back then in the early 00s. Drank it once after he left & it was garbage.
