Yes, one of the core mission of BeerAdvocate is to make fellow new beer (geek) friends. It was, probably still is to this day. @Todd

A couple of questions, then asking for some cool stories behind the other advocates you’ve met so far whether in your city, in a different states or since BA is also becoming more international now  overseas even.

How many advocates have you met?

I met respectively @DoctorZombies in late august 2018 in the north of Paris. This person wasn’t intimidating one little bit, on the contrary quite engaging, friendly and chatty especially if you dare engage him on the precise beer topic, but not only. We had a couple of Grimbergen and exchanged a few beers as sort of an unplanned trade.

Much later in august 2021 (damned Covid-19) another American hailing from California namely @RaulMondesi came over here in my town with his now wife, who’s also French. Very nice of them both, and like with the above fella it went well, Raul is about my age, too.

In September 2021, barely a month into meeting Raul, @John_M one of our Mod suggested while coming over here to have a few beers together and why not an IP trade.

Like Raul he came over with his partner and the conversation went well. He did mention that while my English is good I’m more confident talking in English after a few Chouffe…

Last to date but not least, @Beer-Panda and this time I took the opportunity for a short stay in Amsterdam to suggest we hang out a bit.

Once again not disappointed one little bit, he’s been fairly generous in the Dutch beers he offered and first round of Kilkenny in this bar were on me and also gave him a couple of local French beers.

Yes, it has always been positive experiences. There might have been a couple more BA I could have met and I was keen to but circumstances didn’t work out. Can’t win them all.

Please do tell us who you’ve met, if you meet any or many. While all my meetups turned out well I guess it’s not always the case but we’re listening your great/wild/drunken  gatherings as advocates.

    Cheers, and happy Easter btw.

I've met Todd and Jason at a GABF or 2.

Also Mentor, who sadly passed away several years ago. ColoradoBobs in Fort Collins, also several years ago.

@Schmittymack at our Old Chicago when he and some buddies brought in some fantastic beers to try.(2017, the total eclipse year)

@tkunkel in 2010 when he was passing through Casper and we had arranged a trade. Lovely growler of Kern River Citra.

    I think that's it.

I've met a lot of the regulars in the PNW forum, and was even a witness at one of their weddings. I've also met a few that have been in the area for vacations or work. Always been fun.

    ...great thread, Pierick...!!!

...I've met numerous BAs over the years...the first would have to be at the two BA Denver pub crawls that (natch) included @Todd and numerous other BAs of who (except for two - one - who I don't recall at the moment, but we had an exchange a while back - he was in a couple of the photos I took), and another great BA who may no longer be active, but who gave me several beers out of the blue while we were at the opening venue for the 1st BA Denver pub crawl). Then there was one (likely two) BA sponsored brewery tours, one being Avery Brewing for sure)...

...after that, I believe it was hooking up with @lordofthewiens and Mrs. LordofTheWeins in Denver...and it's kind of ballooned since then...some of the ones I can recall off the top of my head:
    • @eppCOS - a fellow local BA in Colorado Springs
    • @superspak (who I consider a BA legend) in my hometown of Mansfield, OH
    • @GreenBayBA and @Danmullens1 this past October in Sheboygan (along with Nate - @scream's son at 3 Sheeps)
    • some fine visits to my home from @Whyteboar and @Ocalafox
    • @jkblr - a very generous BA who not only has supplied me with Stroh's and a fantastic assortment of Taxman beers, but is a demon of a walker along the Ohio RIver...
    • and a soon to be BA legendary Althing meetup (again in Sheboygan) with not only Micah and Dan, but also Vann and @DoctorZombies and @ChicagoJ
      • I can't confirm it, but there is a rumor circulating that @Todd may make a brief appearance if they can jump-start the official BA corporate biplane and barnstorm it to the Sheboygan County Memorial Airport
...and there are others, I'm sure, but off the top of my Easter Sunday afternoon semi-buzz, these are my immediate memories...

...we've seen plenty of great meetups and hookups with BA members on the BA threads...I have yet to hear of a bad one...the BA family is a beautiful entity...if you haven't had the opportunity to do so, go for it if the opportunity presents itself...the least that can happen is that good beer is shared...

...and a few who I'd love to meet in person:
...and, really, anyone who I've corresponded with and / or traded with...

Would be surprised if @Todd wouldn't find the time for a welcome beer at one of the better beer bars in town

Sadly, only a few - but they have left quite a positive impression on me.

I think my first in-person BA meetup was the legendary @DoctorZombies , who happened to be in Hawai'i at the same time as I (not something likely for either of us, and both of us lived on the US East Coast at the time, but it worked out). Phenomenal meeting (and person!), and we've met up a couple of times since (wait, three times, right?). Dave is a world class BA and human.

@kemoarps and I met up in Washington state when I was up there for business (same for Hawai'i, actually). We had an amazing night (his friends couldn't quite keep up, it seems  ). I'm pretty sure I've got a "Do Not Allow Entry!" poster on the ferry to this day; I still don't know how I made it back to the hotel that night, much less to work the next morning. Kestrel is absolutely a world class human being. He might also be the BA who knows the most about my sports fandoms after only a single evening.

I met up with another BA, Adam (whose account seems to have lapsed, or else he has changed his name again) at Hill Farmstead. I'm sure I've seen many BAs at Hill Farmstead or Armsby Abby, but this was the only meetup I did on purpose. Adam, if you're reading this, I hope all is well; you're an awesome dude.

Another lapsed BA, Maria (I'm sure many of you remember UtopiaJane!), let me stay at her home for a few nights while I was crashing in the Syracuse area (pretty sure it was Ithaca, but I was there for Syracuse). While I didn't get to sample her cooking, her hospitality (and beer nerdery!) were second to none.

On the same trip, I met up with another former BA, Justin, in upstate New York. I'm only slightly shamed to say that I puked in his bushes at the end of the evening, and slept in the back of my car before driving back to the hotel in the morning (to immediately go back to sleep). Don't end your evening on yet another Heady. That shit is dangerous. :stuck_out_tongue:

I met with @Ocalafox and @beerjerk666 at Disney (same trip, I believe, but separate evenings), and I've met up with Vann once since. I hope to see both again, as they (and their families) are lovely people, although the trip from CT is a little bit farther. It may be a bit, boys.

I've met up with a couple other BAs for in-person trades, or after completing a distance trade and the fates just happened to bring us to the same city later on. There are many more that I hope to finally meet one day in person, and I hope to see all of my former meetup partners again some day.

I've legitimately never had a negative experience meeting up with BAs. Every one has been super kind, generous, friendly, and engaging. It's because of this that I will always be interested in future meetups.

I've met a few BA members over the years.

@Quilentro held half a bottle of BA Coffee Shop Vibes for me at Side Project Cellar for me. The last labeled bottle had sold out minutes before, but they found one unlabeled one in the back. We split it. One of my fondest beer memories, so I always like to give him kudos for meeting up that day. It was one of my first weekend trips to Side Project, with this particular trip spurred on by the opportunity to tick one of my grails (BA Coffee Shop Vibes) and other other SP beer that alludes my memory.

@BBThunderbolt and I shared some beers while I was up his way for work. I played Kayak Point Disc Golf (reds) on the way up there. It was a great work trip.

@not2quick we've met in passing a few times at Side Project, and also did an IP trade during one of my trips.

@evilcatfish was at a beer festival I went to. I spent the evening chilling with his group, and then drinking Stags afterwards.

St. Louis has a lot more BA presence than my side of the state, so I've met a few other guys in passing through.

Back in 2021 I had the opportunity to meet up with two BA members. First it was with @unlikelyspiderperson on his home turf and favorite brewery. He gave me valuable advice about which breweries to visit when the pub crawl beercation that I was on would be passing along the CA coastal area where he lives. We met up and had a couple beers and a very likable chat.

The next meet-up was with @FBarber who graciously allowed me to order the BA Lagerfest box of beers and have it shipped to his house because I couldn't have it sent to Michigan. I met him on his home turf too and favorite brewery to get the box from him, and we had a nice chat over a couple beers.

This year I had an IP trade meet-up with @Whyteboar at a small town halfway between our homes. We took the opportunity to enjoy a beer at a local pub after exchanging the trade beers.

Going back farther than I can remember for the proper year, I had a brief chat with Hopfenunmaltz at he Brewers Guild beer fest in the UP. He had given me valuable advice in the Homebrewing forum when I was brewing my first lager. I think he was taking a break from pouring beer for one of the attending breweries, so it was just a brief chat and thank-you for his advice that resulted in a nice Maibock, which I brewed several more times after that.

I like to take off from home on extended pub crawls (600+ breweries and still counting), so I wouldn't be surprised that I've seen some of you along the way but had no opportunity to knowingly share a beer with you. Cheers to those of you who were unknown 'beer buddies' on those occasions.

    Interesting idea for a thread!
I only know of 3 fellow BA beer geeks that I have met in person- @FBarber who was vacationing with his family some 40ish miles from me and suggested a meet up. So he traveled to Grand Rapids and we met up at Hop Cat. He even brought me a small box of really good beer.
The second one was @beergoot when I was in Colorado Springs visiting my mom. He and his wife are great hosts and he shared some great beers.
The third one was @PapaGoose03 who saw me weeping and gnashing my teeth as I made it to Roll out the barrel day at Bell’s and got to the general store to late for the BA Dark Note. He graciously offered one of his 4 packs in trade so we met up at a place mid way between us, had a beer at a curious pub and generally had a good conversation.
It’s been excellent every time I get to meet one of you, I look forward to meeting some more in the future.

    Was a ton of fun!

You also sent some great beers my way from a small local brewery - cannot remember the name now, but I really enjoyed those.
Had a great time! You also brought me some nice beers yourself!

I always see a considerable smattering of BAs every year at FWIB

I also get recognized regularly at breweries since I achieved Pooh-Bah status. I got so many bitches on my tip now.

I've met: @PacNWDad and a couple other BAs when he organized a bottle share (but that was years ago and I don't remember their usernames), @sharpski once very briefly, @jonphisher once for a couple beers and a very abbreviated tour of Ballard, and @BBThunderbolt once for a couple beers and lunch.

All have been fabulous experiences. I hope to expand that list in the future. Hopefully in the not too distant future.

I was going to bed last night so I didn’t share my one BA meet up story but as Ryan stated I did meet up with @snaotheus in fall of 2021…

He is a great person…I felt like I had a tour guide when we were in Seattle for a wedding. As soon as we landed I got a “welcome to the PNW” message, asked him a few beer questions back and forth then we met up for lunch.

Coincidentally we had phish radio in our rental and they were playing a Seattle show as we drove from lunch to brewery heaven part of Ballard. He gave me a few beers to take home and we had a few together at Stoup and Obec…I think he refused to let me pay at either place, so now he has to come to South Jersey someday so I can repay the favor.

I hope to meet some other BAs someday too if the stars align…
