For those who have gone to DLD over the past few years but are now missing out, what are you doing on DLD? A group of us were talking about heading to Plover to hit O'so and Central Waters to show some local brewery love. I do have to admit I will miss not making trades with those coming from accross the country.

i've been debating this, too... maybe having a small tasting party or at least opening up one or two cellar treasures to enjoy over a nice meal.

Don't give up. A lot of tickets "open up" days before the event.

Head up to Shorts Anniversary party the same day.

This. A lot of those assholes that are selling tickets for $150 will drop the price significantly. You'll also see more tickets pop on Craig's list. I missed out on the initial and sale and was out of town for both the brewery releases so I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be able to get some "cheap" a day or two before DLD.

Why are the people selling tickets for $150 the assholes and not the ones buying the tickets? Do tell.

So you're saying the people that are selling tickets for that price aren't assholes for buying up as much tickets as possible, taking them away from people that actually want to go, to just make a profit? Not understanding your logic.

It's said that people are paying that much to go to DLD, but that doesn't make them assholes.

I certainly don't condone the scalping, but it would be short sighted to ignore that the buy side is what's creating the market for the tickets (and the incentive to scalp) in the first place.

In case anyone hasn't been paying attention to prices lately, tickets are going for under $100 lately. Ive seen as low at $60/ticket if you buy 2. Scalping sucks either way, but I think this is the lowest ticket prices will get, just in case anyone is looking to go still.

I must agree. If people were not willing to buy at such inflated prices they would of dropped already. I can understand the draw of DLD, but I would not pay what people are asking for thickets at this point. I am just lucky to have gotten mine during the initial sale (not sure how, but I will take it), otherwise I would not be attending this year.

I have actually been talking to some friends who are toying with the idea of purchasing tickets second hand, but they are hesitant due to the price. Their ceiling was placed at $80. It is just sad that people take such a joyous event and turn it into an opportunity to make a quick buck.

Last year after we had been in line for awhile people were walking up and down the lines saying that they had extras tickets. The same happened at the anniversary party.

I wonder how many people would show up if they sold unlimited bottles of dark lord, and subsequently unlimited tickets.

3Floyds wouldn't be rolling in the money with people lining up for hours to get in and sample their goods if they did that. It's not just the people buy/selling tickets 2nd hand that are creating the hype. People forget about the brewery too. But this is marketing. And if you don't want to pay $75 and up for a bottle of DL, this is just something that has to be dealt with.

The only way to make it not happen in the future is for people to NOT buy scalped tickets. Nip the problem right in the bud and it will go away. But we all know that this will not happen. There's way too many people looking to get their hand on 1 of 6000 tickets. And a lot of those people have enough money that they don't really care what it costs. And throw in all the n00bs that just want to be in with the in crowd and you have the root of the problem. It sucks that a lot of people who want to go can't/won't because they couldn't get a ticket, but when you have tens of thousands, probably actually hundreds of thousands, of people trying to get one of 6000 available tickets, well, you can put two and two together...

I'm helping out by buying up my allotment of Dark Lord and trading with a couple people for equal value other beers. I'm not talking about street value. I'm talking about $15-20 beers.

I don't know, but I would show up first and buy every bottle. Then break all but one so that I could have the Rarest beer ever.

Consumers determine the value of things, not the producers.

The original intent of my comment was to shine a light on the potentiality of everyone who wants dark lord being able to get it. Besides, it's more like 3000 people being able to buy tickets (everyone who got through tried to buy 2 tickets, as common sense would dictate).

OP, love the idea of taking the day to go support the local breweries to show support.

On a completely unrelated note, me thinks this Saturday would be the perfect day for a new R&D release:wink:

This is my first year of going to DLD and I purchased a ticket from ebay. This wouldn't even been a thought had I not been getting my hotel, flight and rental car for completely free. If I had not bought a ticket, I likely would have gone to visit Half Acre and hang out in Chicago for a night or two (which I still plan on doing the weekend after). If there's anything going on in the Munster area the night of DLD, let me know and I'd be glad to come by and share a bottle.

I wish my ticket came with free airfare and accommodations. But my ticket also didn't cost $100+.
