The pub has new owners. Anyone been in since the change? Thoughts?

No more Hill Farmstead either, from what I've heard.

I had HF on tap at the Black Back on Tuesday. La Vermontoise.

I hope it didn't change too much. It was my favorite bar in Waterbury. I am really going to miss those giant burritos.

Following their posted tap list, and from the outside looking in, seems like the new owner's been cut off from HFS. They used to have 5,6,7 on tap at any given time on any given day. It was glorious. Now they seem lucky just to have that Vermontiose stuff. Something is definitely up here, and it's a damn shame.

We have noticed the tap list is a lot less exciting the last couple of months. Hopefully a temporary glitch with ordering.

I walked in there July 4th weekend and asked for their menu and then ended up walking across the street to Pro Pig. I was hoping that they would've had Mad Taco stuff, but not a chance. Decided Pro Pig had the better food and beer list. A shame, because I had never been to Blackback and heard a lot of good things about it.

Long time fan but very disappointed in my one visit under new ownership. $8 short pours, previously mentioned lack of VT beers compared to Ricky, and a criminal Cuban sandwich that arrived full of traditional turkey and mayo. Sad to see, makes Waterbury less of an attractive destination beerwise for me.

I ve only been in a couple times since new owners took over, so I want to give them the benefit of the doubt here. But I have noticed a couple things that worry me:

    -less hill farmstead
-all new staff(at least when I've been in)
=staff didn't seem that knowledgeable about beer,or even what they are currently serving. I ordered a beer and was told they didn't have that one. I said it was on the board. Server says oh, I didn't know we had that.
    - black backs recent Facebook post shown the tap list and says "happy hop jam
weekend!". ---- well, hop jam is next weekend.

I don't intended for this post to hurt the business or discourage others from going. I will be patient and keep trying. As a Waterbury resident, its concerning to see my favorite place change so much. Hopefully , I've just hit it at weird times and things are still great.

Pro pig was always better anyhow. I was in a little while back and they had 3 HF beers on tap at the time. The food was very underwhelming though. Just a meh experience.

Anybody have any insight as to why they would sell, then open up kings head in Maine? Besides cashing in your chips, and starting over, is there any advantage or reasoning behind doing this that I am missing?

This. I stopped in there last night and read the wall and decided to move on. Just seemed like an OK list. I thought Pro Pig and The Reservoir had much better selections.

On a related note, the beers brewed by the Pro Pig were really good. I had the Multi Grain IPA and the Bantam DIPA. It takes a lot of balls to add your own beers to the existing list of beers they serve but it seems like they're up to the challenge :-).

From what Ricky said when we were there in April was that his boy was there and he was driving back and forth all the time to be with him.

That's a damn good reason. Seems like he still has great beer connects, has had cantillon on draft multiple times this summer
