I was just wondering what people thought of Boom Island's beers? Are they worth the money? Also, I know the guidelines are pretty loose for Belgian styles, but how authentic do you think they are to true Belgian styles?

I'm curious as well. In recent memory, I don't really remember reading much on here about them...at all. Wonder if it's just because they are mediocre, or if they aren't the latest kid on the block with a shiny car?

I've had the Hodoo Dubble and Thoprock (spelling is off). I didn't like them. Too carbonated and not really Belgiany to me. I'm not a fan though I heard their Christmas Ale was really good

I've tried all of their standard beers as well as the Lomomo Ale. They are definitely on the high side in terms of price point (which I think is a big turn off for many folks). Their beers run in the $9-$11 dollar range for the 750 ml bottles. I really like the Brimstone tripel. After that the Hoodoo Dubbel was decent. I wasn't a fan of the other beers (Thoprock and Silvius). I have a bottle of the Yule holiday beer in my fridge so I look forward to trying it. I will pick up a bottle now and then but I'd buy it more (particularly the Brimstone) if it was a couple bucks cheaper ($8 range).

Great Belgian style beer. Their Tripel is amongst the best I have ever had. I suggest buying some.

Ive only had them at fests, all offerings were solid but $8-9 for 750ml of a Pale Ale and IPA will never find its way to my home.

Had the Dubbel & Thoprock (I believe) on tap. Both were blah. Not bad, just really, really, really mediocre. Combine OK beer with the obnoxiously high price tag for a brand-new brewery & I doubt I'll ever buy another one of their beers...unless I hear they've improved. The Twin Cities could really use a Belgian-style brewer putting top-notch stuff in bottles/cans.

Que Harriet. Do they have any plans to bottle or can at all?

I sure hope they do. The day they start packaging is the day they become one of the most represented breweries in my refrigerator. The styles they make are the styles I most like drinking, and they make them very well.

I went through at least six growlers of wooden weizen last year, and I have to drive an hour to get them

I have had most of their stuff; really enjoyed the Tripel, Pale Ale and the Yule Christmas beer (fantastic). The IPA and Dubbel are decent but not the best in their lineup. I think overall they do a great job.

Wooden Weizen is the best hefe I've had in America. I could legitimately see myself going through a couple cases a month if it were packaged.

I want to try their tripel but the price tag is too high. I can get St. Bernardus Tripel for less money, it is from Belgium, and one of the greats.

Just try it on tap if you see it. It's fairly common in Minneapolis.

Price point really steers me away from buying a bottle from them.

What would be an appropriate price for a 750 ml? I generally end up paying just ten or twelve for pour decisions. I feel like it's exPensive, but that seems to be the going rate. Pentagram was a good beer but but nearly worth 23 dollars

Gloating is very unbecoming. But it sounds delicious

You're comparing an established brewery with a great reputation to a fairly new brewery. In terms of costs, Pentagram was aged in barrels etc etc which typically adds costs to the beer. Also, Surly's year round beers are around $10-$12 per 4 pack. In terms of larger format bottles, I would pick up a bomber from Steel Toe. Great price point for some great beer.
