ive noticed a lot of beers traditionally bottled that have been offered in cans recently...they may not be as aesthetically pleasing to the eye but id imagine they help keep the beer fresher because no light gets in...is this a trend that will continue to grow? should it?

I'm all for it. Ecologically it's for the best of the beer, and our planet. I don't see the traditional beer bottle disappearing anytime soon, but if we can help our fellow man and his beer, all while helping out the very planet that sustains our species....why not?

Some beers like Heady Topper insist you drink it from the can.

    Cheers

My experience so far is that as long as you aren't actually drinking out of the can, there's no noticeable effect on taste. For whatever reason, maybe something related to smell from the exterior of the can, I don't enjoy the experience of drinking from a can.

From a trading perspective, I much rather ship cans than bottles. There's more care and time involved in prepping bottles for shipping. When I was shipping Heady and Surly cans, there was some peace of mind, although I suppose cans can burst open too.

I don't care how the beer is packaged, so long as it's good and I'm drinking it!

I definitely prefer cans. They keep light out, they're lighter and more easily transportable (and much easier/cheaper to mail), and they're much more easily recycled than glass.

I love some beers that are canned. Carton Boat, Founders All Day, Heady, anything from Sixpoint. I enjoy drinking those straight from the can.

I gravitate to canned beers, but packaging doesn't matter much to me...as long as it isn't a $10 bomber

Beyond the environmental reasons that have me hopped up on cans, it's certainly easier to stack a sixer of cans on a sixer of cans than a sixer of bottles on a sixer of bottles. More beer in the fridge: who would've thought it possible??

One of the beers I resort to with some frequency, Notch Session Pils, recently became available in cans and I don't know if it's my imagination or what, but it seems to be both fresher tasting and more flavorful that way.

I initially thought negatively of craft beer in cans, but it does make sense, no light entering, better preservation for the beer. Also there have been some great craft beers that originated in cans like Surly, and they are just fine. So its all good.

I resisted moving to cans for a long time, don't really know why.

Sixpoint opened my eyes (MMMM....Sweet Action), and lately, I have been buying an increasing number of canned offerings.

I like cans but opening and pouring them isnt fun sometimes due to potential splashing. Bottles are less messier.

I hope that they all switch to cans. There's no negatives and lots of positives to doing this. We all benefit from it.

I like presentation of things and will always prefer bottles as a result. Plus, particularly with session beers, I like to drink straight from the bottle. I can't get into drinking straight from a can.

But end of the day, it is about the beer. As long as the beer is good, I will drink it no matter the format.

Cans preserve the beer better, and protect the beer better. No light, no broken glass.

Can't (shouldn't) take glass bottles to the river or beach.

I am speaking for myself. What don't you agree with? The many benefits of cans have already been mentioned in this thread. The only negative that's been mentioned is just a preference of not liking to drink directly from the can.
