I think the main problem with that review is that it sounds like he didn't even review the right beer. (Although I haven't had Fruet, just going off of other reviews. And for the record I don't really give two shits what it's rated.)

If enough people report it, perhaps it will get evaluated.

EDIT: Looks like the "Report" link is missing from reviews now. Yay!

Guy is also a self-proclaimed "sucker for Mikkeller". Probably has ageusia.

    Fruet was fantastic!

Anybody know the ratio of old beer to new beer that's blended in the solara method?
Is it 90% new beer 10% of the aged, 50%-50%, 99%-1%?

Solara is a cool idea, but my guess is that the blend of the old beers probably doesn't contribute a much to each new year of the beer.

Well it doesn't really matter, since they're all the same base beer, so the average age is going to increase to a point and then stabilize somewhere (based on the ratio they're using, which I don't know).

Do people usually drink a whole bottle of 15+% beer themselves? Personally, I wouldn't consider opening any of the big Bruery beers without 3 or 4 people sharing it. (But I wouldn't share that $100 bottle of wine with anyone but my wife.)

Well I would like to thank everyone. What I figured would happen, happened.
I saw a bottle on the shelf. I. Was on the fence about buying it. I checked the reviews here on BA but I didn't look at how few reviews there were. So I passed. Now everyone is talking about it. I am swept up in the hype and regretting my decision. I will be back at the store first thing tomorrow. I hope they still have a botttle.

Damn I knew I should have just bought it.

I was stunned by the price, but you know what? It's worth it. You're not going to find it again, and it was frickin' delicious - the bourbon was gorgeous, the beer was so decadent, I will recommend it with confidence. Look, if you're tight on funds, I totally get why people don't buy - technically I shouldn't have bought it - and you needn't lose sleep over it if you miss out, but if you can get away with the ($36 in my area), then by all means, do.

I have one of these sitting there in the wine fridge, no desire to open it. You people have changed that!

Can't believe how little came to the Bay Area -- looks like I missed out on my chance because I was in a meeting when word came down.

Really? If I had thousands of dollars I could have had 30 cases by now if I bought the bottle limit every time I saw them at a store. ( San Diego )

As noted, you guys down there tend to be spoiled for beer availability. Way more of everything that's made down there, and plenty of our best, too.

After reading some of these, I'm glad I picked one up today when I saw it. Only $26.50 in PA, apparently a good price? Just sitting on the shelf no bottle limit.

have a bottle waiting to be split in boston. i'm sure i'll like it (i love coton and cuir).

re: the reviews, 1) it's reviewed pretty highly (4.25~, lots of >4s). 2) while i think kojevergas's review reads like terrible bias, i think it's as valid as anyone else's. if you look at his other reviews, he usually has negative rDev, but he gives expensive, "hyped" beers a fair shake. in other words, it's not like he just pans everything barrel aged, or some other credibility-nullifier.

not everyone likes the same things.

I am too lazy to take notes and rate beers here, but The Bruery can be a real drain pour experience for me. I don't know what it is, but their beers are usually lackluster for me. Always too hot, too yeasty, too weird like DFH ( another massive drain pour brewery ). I sort of liked Cuir. I have a Fruet I will try soon.

$26.50 is less than at the source.

That's nuts since the place I got it tends to be slightly higher priced than other areas.

Yeah, it's feeling like I'll need to head far outside of SF and Oakland to track any down this year.
