I guess I just mean it was a rule in the sense I have had the chance for basically every limited release but I did not do it because I felt like if I did I may be taking the beer from someone that really wanted to try it but just showed up a little late.

I'd have no problem keeping bottles from eBayers or trade profiteers but I picture some guy like I used to be, never having tried Cantillon, coming in and hearing the dreaded "sorry, they are all gone"....all because of me.

I don't think one bottle was by any means abuse compared to what I have seen at some of these releases and offerings I have attended. I am all about spreading the love and have never been involved in muling of any form for beer but I didn't find anything in the OP's post that turned my stomach like some of the stories on here.

I do it and don't feel bad about it. A lot of stores that do that have loopholes where you walk out the door and walk back in and buy more, or drive around the block. Even some breweries with brewery only releases let you do that.

He'll be OK. He'll learn to tune in a little better next time.

I have no problem with Muling. I have used Mules and will use mules at hot releases. I have seen all sorts of stuff people do to get extra bottles at a release. I know one guy who did a shoulder tap to a random shopper at the supermarket down the street from Allagash at one of the releases (vic francenstien I think). "hey man... I am 21 but can you come with me down the street and buy two bottles of beer for me". At the same release another person brought multiple outfit changes so he could go through the line more than once. Everyone seems to be doing it.

There's such a giant difference between bringing in people who hate beer just to up your limit and bringing a beer-enthusiastic spouse along to a release that I can't even imagine going into it.

For example, at the T25 dinner on Tuesday, everyone who attended was given one bottle. Since my wife also went to dinner (because she LOVES Russian River), our household currently has two bottles. Which one of us was the mule?

Seems like many people are assuming that if you didn't take more than your fair share someone else would have, so there's no problem doing it......Ok,...so we are ok with people taking more than they are supposed to if we know them (or know them on BA), but if we don't know them then it's not cool.

Hanzo got more than he should of and you all know it. You can lawyer it up with the "they didn't post a sign saying XYZ" or justify it by saying "some dude with 4 of his friends would have just bought the other 5 bottles anyways," or make it OK by saying, "Cantillion is sick, if you didn't take all 6 then you're a dope" etc, etc, etc. That still doesn't change the fact that others are going to/have missed out on this beer because of what Hanzo and many others did/have done. That's not advocacy my book.

    And 3...2....1.....flame me.

You stayed true to your "rule" at other special releases and as a result some other people got to try the beer. That's good a thing. With the Cantillon, you didn't follow your guidelines and as a result some other people won't get to try the beer. Accept it and move on. Very few people hold themselves to their own personal rules/standards in every situation, so don't sweat it.

He only bought 1 extra bottle, then confessed to it publicly.

Even if he not religious, he should go to the nearest Catholic Church and confess! Problem solved.

The people that complain about muling are the ones that are jelly cause they have no mules.

The main reason I brought this up is I just gave some guy shit in another thread about going with a bunch of mules, getting way over his allotment and then deciding which friends/trade partners he wanted to bestow (trade/sell) the beer to. He thought that made him an advocate and I disagreed.

But this second bottle is going to a tasting with about 10 other BA members....does that make it more ok? At the end of the day I still caused someone to miss out. And this kind of make me a hypocrite.

Good to know we have the beer morality police among us, And no, I've never had anyone "mule" for me and I don't give a shit if anyone does. Just sick of people like you telling me what the fuck I should be doing in regards to something as simple as buying beer. Maybe you and Pahn can write some sort of code for what's acceptable beer buying behavior.

If you bought ONE BOTTLE you caused someone to miss out. Stop buying beer?

If those 5 other people wanted it, it was in the store and available for purchase. If they missed out clearly they didnt make the required effort. (Yes I understand people have work/different working hours but thats part of getting the beer and you have to make the choice - take the day off and lose a vacation day/day of pay or get your bottles of Cantillon. While that may seem drastic its the reality in these situations.)

Edit: And since I have been working full time I no longer get the opportunity to get these bottles that sit in stores for 30 minutes or less anymore because I have chosen work to be my priority.

I'm just saying I know that a lot of BAs on have grabbed an extra this or that with limited beers, and they've done so without mentioning it publicly. At least Hanzo owned up to it, even though he didn't have to.

Given the opportunity, I think a lot of BAs would grab 2 bottles of Cantillon even if it was 1 per person.
