Just looking for something simple and cheap to brew up to put in my keg for the cooling weather. Not looking for any specific style just throwing some ingredients i have and like together. i'm think 33% rye, 33% vienna, 33% red or dark wheat. 1.055 with saf 05. Mosaic at bittering to 15 ibus. Any reason this won't make a tasty brew?

Will the rye and the wheat contribute enough diastatic power to convert? I'm not a fan of rye beers so I might swap the rye for 2-row. However, if you like rye then you should try it. It will definitely be beer.

My thoughts exactly, but if you've got a little more wheat it should work. As for the flavor, if you're just bittering and not really going for flavor and aroma hops I think that works fine.

Hmmm good question. I have used 60% wheat in a recipe with no trouble. I didn't know that rye didn't have a high diastatic power. I've never used it but have liked it in other peoples beer

Assuming that by Rye you mean Rye Malt... Rye Malt, Vienna, and Wheat Malt all have (from any maltsters I've seen) enough diastatic power to self-convert, so any combination of the three should convert just fine.

It sounds tasty to me. If you like what these malts taste like individually, I'd say try it.

alright so it isnt so quick anymore. I am using 100% vienna malt with perle hops and fermenting with mangrove jack m84 bohemian lager yeast. I bought the grain today and am brewing it in the morning. This will be my first lager.

Good luck with your brew! I have never used that yeast before. Anyone know the source of this strain?
