I've traded before with this Canadian and he always has beers I've never heard of, and unfortunately do not know the value/difficulty to obtain of any of them. He is wanting a Dark Lord, and is offering up some combination or one of the following:

    Les Trois Mousquetaires Porter Baltique
    Cuvée Van De Keizer Blauw
    Cantillon Iris

I was very interested in the Les Trois but upon a little research it seems like it sells for under $10. He also said only 700 bottles were produced but I cannot find any such verification. Not even sure if it is seasonal or what, but he was able to pick up 2 vintages just today. As for the other two, I have no clue how easy they are to obtain or their value.

Is the Les Trois difficult enough to come by to trade 1:1 with DL? Honestly the only one of the 3 I know is Iris, and not really even sure the trade value on such a thing. Thanks for any help!

I did not realize DL was hard to find.

Pretty sure that baltic porter showed up around here 3-4 months ago. The other beers are generally available in the US too. You can't get the blauw where you are? I figured it was a pretty common beer.

Everyone belonging to the Rare Beer Club got some of the "Les Trois Mousquetaires Porter Baltique." To me, that means it isn't that rare. Can't speak much about the "Cuvée Van De Keizer Blauw," but I'm pretty sure I've seen them on shelves in Jersey. As far as the Iris goes, it's as limited as most other Cantillons...tough to get, but not impossible.

Isn't the 700 bottle version of the Baltique the bourbon barrel edition? Otherwise, the regular edition makes it to the United States.

I saw the original post -- the guy is offering the bourbon barrel Baltique. Van de Kaizer Blauw is very common, and Iris is like all the other 'Loons for availability.

Cantillon Iris for Dark Lord all day, any day. . .

And I am actually one of those West Coasters who, gasp, shock, horror. . . actually likes him some Dark Lord, but wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger for a second for some Iris.

Yup, I'd go for the Iris if you haven't had it before.

If there was a trade post similar to this, that is not where my trade offer is based

So the Van de Kaizer Blauw might be available in Chicago? Just quickly checking on beermenus doesn't show any, but it may just not be in season. I don't want to trade for something I can get later here. Sounds like Iris is a good straight up trade though.

Also, the Baltique bourbon is limited to 700 bottles, but the regular was widely distributed? Is it made yearly?

Another thing to consider: Dark Lord needs like 3 years to be a good beer, whereas Iris is delicious right now.

I assume the most recent vintage. Are they 12oz or 750ml?

I'm not sure why the beginning of this sentence makes me laugh but it does.

Van de Keizer is everywhere. Any bottle shop worth its weight with a halfway decent Belgian selection will carry it, often in both 750's and 4-packs. It's also one of the best beers in the world, better than anything else you have listed up there, but I digress.

Iris for DL 1:1 is a very fair trade.

Yes indeed. I think it is fairly recent - I first remember seeing them not too long ago, though I know Het Anker has always liked their small bottles, so I'm not sure precisely when they came out. In MA at least they're not really priced much better per ounce, but it's nice to have such a strong beer in a smaller bottle, particularly one I enjoy drinking a lot.

Blauw is available in Chicago I discovered, and only $8 for 750ml which is awesome
