An old friend of mine recently contacted me about a bunch of beer his girlfriend (strangely enough) was trying to sale. They sent pictures at first of hand written lists of the collection with tallied quantities. Pretty standard stuff, nice collection of founders, and there it was.. over a case of better half and a few 09 nemesis. I let them know I was interested and made a quick list of "wants". I was told they would let me know some prices asap. Couple days later I get an email with a more detailed spreadsheet of the collection including prices, extremely horrid site indeed.

I just think some of these prices are ridiculous. Especially since its a local sale and all of these beers were available in this market. None are brewery only releases, just fairly limited allocations.

I'm curious as to what my fellow BA's think about it. I honestly would love to have some of these beers but can't justify the mark up. What would you do? Do you think these prices are warranted?

Is she a shop owner? If not, this rubs me the wrong way no matter what the prices are...

Any chance you can get the photos larger? I can't see them on the site, and I went to tinypic, and they're almost thumbnail size.

Until then, I can't comment on specifics, but in general, I have no problem with people charging whatever they want to sell beer that they obtained. Supply and demand, yadda yadda yadda... If you want some of the beer and don't want to pay the prices listed, make them a counteroffer. Worst you're going to get is a no...

    Links are broken.

I highly doubt the Better Half has held up this long. I would move on.

yep, that's pure insanity. Just wait for Sweet Repute...sounds to be similar to Nemesis '09 and you can get 750mL for far less than $30 (at most shops anyway... )

OP, I had a Better Half with just over a year on it and it wasn't even worth the $25 trade value. Good beer, but absolutely no maple or bourbon remained.

Why is it strange that his girlfriend is trying to sell some cellared beer?

Well for one, this person isn't a craft beer drinker so the last thing I expected him to contact me about was a cellar sale. Just thought it was odd. It's not too often that people my age have much of a collection and even more random to meet a girl who has beer predating their legal drinking age. When I asked how they had so many better half he replied, "Luck". Strange right?
