the question for me is, what temp was it conditioned at at the brewery and where did it go from there? (i believe most big production places condition at 55 or so cellar temp) if it then goes into a distributor's cooler at 40f and then out onto an 85 degree shelf? if it is a pale ale, pils or lager it is going to suffer quicker. or if it gets too hot and then too cold again. and then warm...

if it goes from cellar temp to cellar temp then to slightly above cellar on a display, you should get maximum life. it is a living thing... if it is comfy without being too cold, then it should hold that way / provided it's not too hot.

all about minimizing the TRAUMA TO THE BEER> cold hot, too cold, too hot. that will ruin the beer and flavors faster than a less drastic life experience.

Probably 95% of the bombers here in NJ are in the warm so I guess I never thought about it too much. I'd probably rather buy an older bottle if it was kept cold. i.e. I may buy a cold enjoy by a week or two after it's day if it was kept cold.

Can your warm shelf be facing the cooler? That might keep it a few degrees colder, and that's how it is at my local store. Bottles always seem pretty cool to the touch.

Another thing I am taking away from this thread is that people just post without reading other posts. The same points have been made multiple times.

NO SUNLIGHT!!!!! BEER IS TRANSPORTED WARM!!!! We get it.

Nothing wrong with selling room temp beer. You move it out pretty fast don't you? That's all we have down here and it's fine. Most of the stuff I bring back from CO is room temp shelf beer. I always buy some from the cooler to drink while I'm there and it's no different from the warm stuff I bring home.
