Anyone have any thoughts on a controller like this. It appears to be a plug and play solution for heat/cold control in freezer or fermenter. I'm not a whiz on this sort of thing, so I'm looking for more expert opinion(s). Thanks. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0185PGVXG...UTF8&colid=1BOXTU3D2YPOH&coliid=II6T982QTGSDX
There is only 1 place for a plug which means that it will either heat or cool (depends on what you plug in), but it won't do both at the same time. This may be fine for you, it depends on what you plan on using it for.
I built this dual temp controller out of spare parts I had lying around and the controller from Amazon for about $35. It works great and looks cleaner than anything I would have put together on a first try on my own. http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/pimp-my-system/build-temperature-controller/
That looks nice, but I'm not particularly skillful with electronics, etc., and the controller and linked too is pretty much plug and play for about 1/2 that price, with shipping. For the price, though, I'm a bit leery concerning the quality and was hoping someone else had some experience with this product. There are no reviews on Amazon or anywhere else that I could find.
My thoughts are it will work as expected. No rocket science here, just a sensor that trips a switch(s). I started controlling temps with Ranco (fifty bucks) which worked pretty well, then switched to the cheap STC1000 knockoffs (Inkbird, <20 bucks) and it did equally well. This unit does appear to be fully self contained and IMO worth the $20 gamble. Plus you would become this Forum's expert on Anself Controllers . . . a noble title.
Alas… my last shot at nobility, something I've been chasing all my 76 years. I'm motoring over to Amazon as we speak. ;-)
