I’ve tried a couple beers from Three Chiefs and they were extremely well executed big stouts. I’m pretty sure I actually tried this beer at Woodshop this year and was very impressed by it. But even if it wasn’t this particular beer, the offerings I’ve had from Three Chiefs are right up there with some of the most coveted big stouts being produced at the moment. Glad these guys seem to already have a successful following, and being from Long Beach, I’ll be super happy if they setup shop in Signal Hill! Supporting a brewer that gives back to the community and to charity just makes me want to support them more once they open...can’t wait!

$800 for a beer? Has anyone even tried it? Some people are crazy, I might give them $20, just because it is charity.

Quality of the beer aside, is auctioning off alcohol like this even legal?

I’ve seen live and silent auctions for wines before, so I would assume that Beer is acceptable to auction off as well. As for auctioning in the way they are, it could be similar to a “silent auction,” although I don’t know the ABC rules for it.

I also imagine the ABC isn't to worried about auctions for charity. Also, they are essentially "giving" someone the beer, granted this person just so happened to make a donation, but it is still a gift, since the brewery got nothing out of the deal.

I drove past their building yesterday. It’s on El Segundo Blvd west of Sepulveda in El Segundo. Pretty close to El Segundo Brewing.

I think it’s in the same building as R6 distillery

That's pretty close to my work. And then there's Common Space not far away too.

None of my beer drinking friends, to my mild frustration, enjoy the double IPAs and barrel-aged stouts those that read this forum enjoy, they are all perfectly happy drinking Corona and anything else "light."

And I have been to Angel City and Arts District many times with these friends and I can tell you uniformly my friends are very pleased with their beer and had a great time. For example the last time I was at Angel City I was there with a friend from Germany who said Angel City's pilsner was the only pilsner he has had in the US that reminded him of the pilsners he enjoyed in Germany.

I'm good with Angel City's pilsner, IPA, and some of their limited releases like Dark Rye Lager and I'm good with Arts District's IPA's like Crazy Gideon. Should they be on any must-drink list? No, but they do have their niche.

that was our 3rd stout we brewed and just racked it into barrels a few weeks ago. the pic you see was our first batch, and treated 15 gals with Fijian Cacao Nibs and Tahijian Vanilla beans just to kind of see how its doing, so far im happy with it that we plan to bottle and release it Sept 8th.

anyone one want a free crowler of it? whoever is willing to meet me in Anaheim can have it.
