Sorry if this has been mentioned before (I did a search and couldn't find anything -- if so, please merge). But I stumbled across a Crain's article featuring Nick Floyd (as one of Chicago's best entrepreneurs in 2014). One thing of note was the mention of a possible brewpub in Chicago: "And good news for Chicagoans: Mr. Floyd is scouting city neighborhoods for a second brewpub." http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20140705/ISSUE02/307059991/best-entrepreneurs-2014-nick-floyd Have at it . . .
yeah, the quote is definitely old. Didn't they just sell the property in chicago? I thought it was somewhere on California ave, near logan square or humboldt park if i recall. the article i read this was from early this year or late last year.
I wish I could find the source, but I thought I had read that they decided (for tax or laws or whatever reason) not to open the brewpub in Chicago, and instead, bought the building next to their current facility to expand into.
The article mentions them buying the adjacent building to expand for what is essentially spirits, but in addition mentions the Chicago brewpub. This is for Crain's July feature, so I'm assuming it's pretty recent.
This "new" article has pretty much the same words as one written over 2 years ago... http://chicago.curbed.com/archives/...ss-red-door-moderno-in-highland-park-more.php April 2012 -"With the news that Nick Floyd is scouting locations to open a Three Floyds brewpub in Chicago, beer geeks won't have to trek out to Munster, Ind., for a fresh pint of Alpha King." "Owner Nick Floyd tells the Trib's Josh Noel that he is scouting spots to open a bar in the city, about 40 minutes away from the original location at his Munster, Ind., brewery. He's pretty tight-lipped on where, but said it would be "anywhere but the Loop." As for timing? Sometime in the "near future." ---- I think chicagobusiness just needed some info quick, and didn't really do their homework to see that they've since sold the property they bought and have not mentioned a word in years about a Chicago location actually coming to fruition. At least we all have the word scouting in our heads today.
For what it's worth... I don't think the photo in the article is photoshopped. Just extremely over-lit and edited. You can see a nice shadow of the keg over the dudes shoulder and the other dudes hair on the left-most tank.
Here's a two year old blog that mentions Floyd is looking for a chicago spot. http://www.sloopin.com/2012/05/how-to-make-motor-row-instantaneous.html http://articles.chicagotribune.com/...0120426_1_zombie-dust-brewery-dark-lord-day/2 another article that is two years old mentioning a chicago location. Another that is basically the same as above. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/...20425_1_pale-ale-three-floyds-chicago-brewpub Ah, here we go, i knew it was on california ave! http://www.chicagobusiness.com/arti...ee-floyds-planning-a-brewpub-in-humboldt-park i'm sure the focus currently is the $10 million expansion in Munster. If anything chicago happens, i don't see it for another 5 years. /speculation.
ILCC/IL state laws probably prohibit FFF building a brewpub in IL. See that Schlaffly article above linked.
