Rue was great. Ive convinced myself that 40 dollars for a BA Barleywine however is fucking ridiculous and did not get one.

You are crazy or were drunk.

I thought the cherry was very subtle... way more boozy than anything else.

I saw Old Forester and WIllett, what was the first release? Wow, they really are trying to max out repeat buyers on this. Guess the market is drying up?

Wonder what this means for DL variants. Are they going to have BA DL in same spirits, but just different makers like this?

Hopefully I can do some side by sides of the different varieties of BA Behemoth at DL draft tents.

Would be interesting to see the difference between Woodford, Old Forester and now Willett. I'm a huge fan of Behemoth and never tried the BA version. Pulled the trigger and bought an Old Forester one this weekend.

I also got the Old Forester one. I believe (could be wrong) that they typically use Woodford for BA behemoth so I don't mind missing out on that one. However I'm trying to trade one of my Old Forester for a Willett

Those who cracked into a BA Behemoth- how similar is it to a Rev Straight Jacket?

We did a BA 13, 15, 16 and the first one that got released last Friday. The 13 was absent of most of the barrel (if you have one of these, I would drink soon.) Everything else was excellent! The 17 was pretty hot though. I would let it sit a few months. Good flavor though.

Did a blind tasting of a bunch of barrel aged barleywines with several other friends (around 10 from what I remember). We all 3 ranked straight jacket #1 and BA Behemoth dead last. I think the Behemoth was a 2014, and we did this in 2016.

I've personally never enjoyed BA Behemoth any of the times I've had it (twice from the bottle and once on tap at DLD last year). The taste of old oxidized hops just overpowers everything else for me.

Straight Jacket is so underrated it's crazy, especially in a BA crazy city like Chicago. I love that it's still sitting on shelves & you can go 2:1 on the cost of a BA Behemoth. I picked up my 3rd bottle this past weekend :grinning:

Found the list of brews we had in the lineup (in no particular order): Straight Jacket, BA Behemoth, Mother of All Storms, BCBBW, Central Waters, BA Old Stock Ale, and Sucaba. As I mentioned Straight Jacket was #1 and BA Behemoth was dead last unanimously. The ones in between varied a bit from person to person. Everyone had BCBBW in the top 3 and we all had Central Waters in the last 3 (purely due to an unpleasant hop bite in comparison to others).

I can see that on the CW BW fresh, but let those sit a year and its as good as any ba bw out there.

The one we actually had was at least a year old (probably closer to 2). We were all surprised by where it made it on our lists, and 2 of us (myself included) hypothesized that it would be in the top 2 before the tasting. It's surprising what details you pick out when you're drinking a beer (blindly) side-by-side with others of similar style.
