Pliny the Younger makes it out the Philly on ocassion. My brother had it in March at Pinocchios in Media, PA and then I had it at Side Bar in Westchester, PA a few weeks later. I will try to remember to BM you if I hear it is coming around again.

One of the stores by me literally has a pallet of Hopslam sitting in the middle of the store. I'm talking 8-10 cases still. Obviously nobody that knows anything is buying it anymore and it is still priced at $16/6 which eliminates the casual guy taking a flyer on it.

If they cut the price in half I'd probably get one to compare to what it's like fresh....

I think a better thread would be regional but still elusive beers. Obviously I'm not getting much HF or RR here in Wisco.

    1. CBS
    2. BCBS
    3. Any Cantillion (can't find them anywhere)

Dirty Horse (you basically have to know Struise or know someone who knows Struise AKA you cannot buy this beer last time I heard of a bottle being sold was many years ago at an auction)
Dave (I heard from Alan 3 years ago that HE has less than 10 bottles of this that won't be sold and the release was +10 years ago at this point)
Old Framboos (Not even the most connected Lambic hounds I know over there can get a bottle of this. No chance for a mear mortal like Tender)

Ironically I was able to tick two of these three:slight_smile:

Golden Delicious?? You must be joking... I picked up 4 bottles at the brewery a few months back. It's not good by the way. They change the recipie I think. Older bottles tasted like apple pie and the new ones tasted like a bad rip off of La Fin Du Monde.

A lot of the beers in this thread are quite attainable if the seeker is willing to give up his/her equally rare beer. However, that is rarely the case.

Well I have a ton of elusive beers but three that I would love to try are:
    1. BCBS
    2. Kate the Great
    3. Founders CBS

Yup... I could have bought 4 bottles of Liquid Sunshine at a local store in Mass a few weeks ago. I only bought 2:slight_smile:

That's a true shelf whale. Slightly tough to get but nowhere near impossible. A lot of the beers here are shelf whales. Not by any means inpossible.

I wouldn't even put M in this catagory to be honest. I strongly suspect that there are well known traders on this site that got CASES of this at the time of the release and are sitting on them and trading them one at a time over the last few years. Getting ludicris stuff in return. Basically hording and hyping up the value. I have no real evidence of this just a piecing together some of the things I have heard...

I know! It pissed me off cause that beer used to be awesome. CL has fallen big time in my opinion with there barrel aged beers. Still a damn good local brewery but not like it used to be.

Looking at people's list, I realize how lucky I am to be in Philly, have a little bit of extra income, and great friends to share beers with

My top 3 beers I've wanted to try that have eluded me thus far are:
    • Bourbon Vanilla Dark Lord
    • Cantillon Don Quixote
    • 3F Millenium Geuze

Whereabouts in Philly are you? I just moved to northern Bucks County. Perkasie now, but will be in Chalfont soon.

    Top 3 are
    PTY
    Westy
    Heady Topper/Hopslam(tie)

Hopefully now that I'm in the Philly area that list will be changing soon. Was fortunate enough to previously live within walking distance of a bar in New York that has a very good relationship with Shelton Brothers so I've had access to several Cantillon and 3f. Unfortunately the Fou' Foune eluded me by about 5 minutes.

#1s gotta be Allsopp's Arctic Ale, man that would be nice to try. Aside from that, hmm, Sam Adams Utopias is one that has been accesable yet I have never had the chance to try. And Ive heard a lot about BCBS but have never seen it, that would be nice. I'd love some Heady Topper, or Kate the Great, or maybe some Dark Lord but im not so sure about that one. I think thats more than three, sorry Ill drink.

Cantillon still disappears instantly in Portland. I'm not sure that anywhere even puts it on the shelf, you pretty much have to know when it's coming in to town, ask the bottleshop staff directly, and hope you're lucky.

The less expensive 3F sells pretty fast, but the $25+ bottle do sit around for a while.

I live in West Philly and DelCo.

Younger is on draft at around 20 bars the last couple years. Tap times and prices are usually listed ahead of time. I had Younger at Monk's and Local 44 this year.

Heady Topper was dropped in the area earlier this summer, all told I bought around 4-5 4-packs.

Hopslam makes an appearance in early spring as well, although it was tougher for me to find, but I managed a 6-pack.

Westy is slated to be distributed to the US, so you should be able to find it at a better beer store soon.

My guess is that with a little persistance, you'll knock all 4 off the list with in the next year
