Three Most Elusive Beers

Thanks to some awesome guys here on BA, I have managed to get the opportunity to drink so many things. It blows my mind that only a year ago, I had not even an idea of how deep the craft beer world went. Now I speak one more language that only few understand.

Going by what it seems I can never get on trades:

1. Lawsons Maple Tripple
2. Those things that Kuhnhenn makes that are not beer, depending on who you ask......
3. Coolships

Id throw in De Dolle Mooi & Machtig, but thats just silly. It doesnt exist anymore!

 

Cantillon doesn't move as fast in Canada. I wonder why that is?

 

I never play out of my league so I get whatever I go after

yeah, i'm not losing sleep over it, but it's the only beer i can think of that i looked for repeatedly and didn't find.

i guess i looked for CBS? i was on a list or two that didn't end up getting me the beer. i "looked for" some cantillon varieties back when cantillon still sent beer to CT, but only found the readily available ones (unblended, 100% gueuze, rose de gambrinus, iris, lou pepe kriek and framboise). i think i've found some of the cantillon i haven't tried, but balked at the price (this was before it became clear that cantillon would turn into the Unattainable Dream in CT and even NYC to some degree).

what else... i guess i "looked for" better half? i didn't really go out of my way for it (nor CBS), nor did i expect to happen across it.

in the end, if i'm actively looking for a beer, i usually find it, as has been the case for several years. i'm not exactly going to the store and "looking for" kate the great. (shrug)

"traded for", that stuff's all a matter of effort. unless you're really shooting for the stars, chances are you haven't traded for X b/c you haven't tried hard enough. i haven't tried adam from the wood, but i also haven't offered anything that people would reasonably give me AftW for. had i done so, i would have tried it...

Besides those 3, everything else is gettable. Just have to go to the right place at the right time.

A year ago this list was alot different hopefully I can knock some of these off the list soon. Gotta love the trill of the chase.

 

Well, this'll always be a regional thing, because what's hard to find here (LI, NY) might be in grocery stores in CA. Also, it depends on personal demand - it might be really hard to find something around here, but since I'm not interested or don't even know it exists, it won't make my list ('natch).
Preamble aside, these are my 3:
1) Pliny the Elder - we don't get Russian River stuff in my area, so there's a bunch of their stuff I'd like to try
2) Dark Lord Imperial Stout - same thing goes for Three Floyds
3) Westvleteren 12 - I've only seen this on ebay for like $25 + shipping

 

PTY I'll never see unless I'm home in Philly and stumble on it as it's being tapped. Miss by an hour and the keg is floating sideways.

 

I'd have to say for me these are the ones I want the most that I haven't gotten my hands on yet:

Hunahpu - Cigar City
Abyss - Deschutes
Hopslam - Bell's

I'd add in Hill Farmstead's Abner, Society & Solitude #3, #4, and Damon but I had a bunch of the Abner and S&S's on draft last week and I got a bottle of Damon as a gift a few months back. I just want more of those.

 

It comes out the same time every year and usually tapped over a few week period. When it comes out he won't be able to miss it if he frequents the forums at all.

 

I suppose "elusive" means you have to seek it out and I don't really trade so my list is restricted to beers somewhat available near me or in states I visit. That limits me to a few of the Cantillons (not retired) that I haven't had.

I've been fortunate to knock off many of my previously elusive ones in the past year: PtY, Beatification, CBS, Fou' Foune, and a few others.
