They posted on Facebook that they were opening their tasting room Friday at 4. Nice vibe in the tasting room and the two beers they had on offer, Trader Crystal-Hopped Saison and the Hydraulian Red, were at least solid if not quite mind-blowing. Looking forward to trying the rest of their line-up in the coming weeks.

OK, this is a brewery we need to keep an eye on. They have two new releases this week along with the two released last week. The Three Chopt (local reference) Pumpkin Ale was nicely restrained and balanced and exceedingly drinkable. More importantly, the 40 Mile IPA immediately ranks with Parkway's Get Bent and Mad Fox's Orange Whip as the best non-seasonal IPA produced in Virginia. The taste of the 40 Mile leans toward the Orange Whip/CCB Jai Alai IPA end of the IPA bitterness/citrus spectrum with the smell/taste of tropical fruits without overwhelming bitterness.

Hardywood/Williamsburg, there is a challenger to the throne.

interesting - I don't think Parkway is all that great personally and the last couple of times I've had Orange Whip it seemed to be seriously lacking compared to the past.

next time you're in Richmond try to get over to the Midlo area and hit up Extra Billys - Brandon is producing some great Pale and IPAs (and just won a couple medals for them at the VA craft brewers fest the other week)

I went in for the first time last Friday and loved their IPA (coming from a devoted non-lover of IPAs), not a face slapping, grapefruit sucking hop bomb, rather a beer you could sit with friends over a couple, or a few, pints of. They have an English brown ale going on tap soon, which I am looking forward to. Definitely a welcome addition to the Central Virginia beer scene!
