I thought the same thing.. There's only so much carbonation that can happen, because once the sugar added with the yeast, fermentation can't continue anymore. The yeast will finish the job.

I wondered if maybe these weren't held back long enough to carbonate, and maybe they just needed another week or two to get carbed up well enough. Once someone tossed them in the fridge, the co2 would go into solution better and the beer would be complete.

However, I simply don't see 3T releasing the beer until they were confident they were carb'ed.

I've had Quas in both formats. I prefer the bottle due to slightly lower carbing. Not to say draft was any less great, but I find a frothy head on most any beer displeases me, and draft did have more carb to it. Not a lot, but enough to notice the difference. This also could be due to the bar's pressure on the tap as well. Heavy Bells I have only had in bottle, and I loved it. Perfect amount of carbonation for my tastes. I can see where someone would want more, but any time I have a barrel aged beer I expect it to be a little flat, the time in the barrel tames that and force carbing it afterwards can sometimes be too much. I think it will definitely develop in the bottle, and seeing as how fresh it is now, time will likely chew up a little more sugars and give off some gasses. After that, it will settle back down again.

    FWIW,

I want someone to buy one each year, and then after 3-4 years, bring it to the brickstore for the MOAG. Man that would be fun.

I thought it had enough carbonation. The bourbon and the oak accentuated the great base Quad, but did not overly dominate. I am glad I picked up 2 bottles. I may have to grab some more.

Well that sucks.. I mean, I don't think I can be the only one that doesn't care for extremely low carb'd beer. I can get by with Lost Abbey stuff, I mean, it's corked and really low carb, but I can still feel some carbonation, if I don't see it.

My Heavy Bells was flat. I could see a tiny bit on the side of the glass, but no head, no foam, no sense of it when I drank it.

My pour looks like yours. Only some large bubbles from an aggressive pour, but the flavors were amazing.

Just finished the bottle. Despite of it being flat it's very, very good. The best American made BBA Quadrupel. Might not be good to age, but it's worth trying/drinking right now.

I agree. The regular Quasi is a damn fine beer, the BA version is excellent.

I'm looking for it on tap to try it out, I have another bottle, but I'm just worried I'm gonna have bad luck again.

A very nice BA quad. I'm really enjoying BUT (@FATC1TY and @WckdVbz ) I got zero "hiss" when opened and taste no carb. It is flat. Aside from that it's a very well done brew.

Would love to taste with some carb.

I have another bottle. I'm half tempted to dose it with some yeast and corn sugar solution, purge the headspace with co2 and carb it up on my own.

It's on tap I think at a local growler shop, so I might get a growler of it for this weekend and enjoy it carbonated.

I'm pretty convinced now, there was an issue in bottle conditioning the beers. Hopefully it's fixed next year, as it's a stellar base beer and for being flat, it's damn tasty.

I think people are getting swayed away from this beer based on info. To be fair, a lot of drinkers aren't used to a very low carbonated beer. A Baladin Xyauyu would scare the hell out of them, but it's easily the best series of beers I've ever had in my life. English barleywines, Quads, some BA stouts, they do fine with very low carbonation, even none. The mindset that all beer has to have a huge head of foam is stupid, so get past that and try the beer anyway, it's incredibly well done and has one of the best barrel characters for a Belgian beer I've ever had. By comparison, Boulevard's BBQ is out right now too and while it's a great beer in it's own right, Heavy Bells blows it away.

I agree with RDMII, although I DO wish to have more carbonation, I'm still wondering if it was intended to be like this.

Why carb this one much, much lower than the reg Quasi? Same beer, add a barrel.

If this was intended, then hey, they are consistent, with the small sampling here, most pours appeared like mine.

Maybe leave your other bottle at room temp for a month or so and see if it will carb up some. Hopefully the bottle conditioning is just a bit behind the 8 ball.
