Tick option?

    I'll probably get 20 previous threads in response, but since I'm not sure how to search for something this general....

    We currently have options to review a beer, or merely rate a beer. What about an option to simply tick a beer as one we've had, but choose not to rate for whatever reason? I like using BA to keep track of what I've had, and will happily rate most beers (and someday I'll break down and actually write a review :rolling_eyes:), but I feel uncomfortable rating a beer in a style that I'm not accustomed to, or worse yet isn't really a style I enjoy that much but I'm trying something because it's new to me and I like to try new things. If it's something I've had a lot of but isn't my favorite genre, I'll try to rate to how I view the beer within its style class; but if it's something I'm not familiar with (e.g., DIPA with chiles, oregano, lemon zest, and black beans randallized over oak chips and St. John's Wort and served with a cinnamon stick) I'd rather just tick.

    Just rate the beer. It's only a number. Trust me, we're not curing cancer here.

    Man, we over think this stuff too much. Rate it and move on.

    While on the subject, change the little checkable box to "show reviews only" instead of "show all ratings", because the latter language describes them far too equitably. Also prefer the old label of 'hads' instead of talk about 'ratings'.

    The 'hads' language is deservingly much closer to ticks or ticking.

    And then all of your ratings will get purged (without warning) for abusing the rating system. Bad idea, and advice.

    We've covered this before. We will not be adding a feature that allows you to just tick a beer without a rating. As a compromise to those who didn't want to use words (write reviews), we added ratings.

    So if you've had the beer, give it a quick and honest rating and move on. It takes a mere second, provides value, and it's not much to ask for using a free website.
