    Hey folks,

So a couple weeks back I got to try Tilquin Quitsche at The Festival and it was miraculous. I just popped a bottle I was lucky enough to find (well...), and there's NO carb whatsoever. No head, not a single bubble. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't remember it being like this at all.

Had a bottle about a week ago and it was fine. That's very odd...

Was it just the carbonation that was off? Did it taste ok?

Yea it tastes fine, but like the lost abbey comment, it's missing the hot shit qualities that it had when i first tasted it because it's flat as hell.

Had one 375 so far that was dead flat, so no, you are not alone.

However, I had two 750s recently that were properly carbed.

I noticed in the reviews a fair amount of people cite "moderate to low carbonation," but this would definitely be described as "VERY LITTLEto no carbonation whatsoever."

Interesting. Wonder if Pierre knows about this...

This was a 375 btw for the record.

Oddd. I did try multiple samples from multiple bottles at the Festival and found carbonation to be very low.

Zero carbed from a 375. Haven't cracked either of my 750s yet.

Nope – this happens sometimes with lambic's.Doesn’t really mater since it doesn’t ruin the taste, it is not a QC issue, just the nature of lambic.Plenty of people on here spend big money on Loerik’s – also had a completely flat 3F geuze with some age on it a while back.Had a flat De Cam Special recently still tasted great.
Hanssens fruit stuff is all flat intentionally & they are incredible.

I don't really get your post. Are you talking about lambics (intentionally and expected to be flat), or spontaneously fermented beer (not expected to be flat)?

I am talking about geuze & lambic’s, sometimes the refermentation fails and the beer stays flat. This can happen with geuze – leading to what is called a loerik which can become carbonated over time. This can just as easily happen with fruit lambic’s. About Hanssens their oud fruit beers being non refermented & thus always flat. Hope that this is clear.

I'm not an expert, but it sounds like an issue with the fermenting process.

I think one need only read reviews of this beer to see that if there is a carb. issue it is unintentional and sporadic. While I am no expert, far from it, I believe the whole point of adding young lambic to a gueuze blend is to carb, it up in the bottle.

This thread seems a wise warning to folks that they might not get a beverage with carbonation.

The guy at my local shop told me that so far all 375s have been flat while the 750s have been carbed. My 750 had medium to low carbonation but was still awesome.

Indeed but sometimes the carbonation doesn’t start & you wind up with a flat or an almost flat beer. It is not bad brewing, just the nature of the drink. Like sometimes batches fail & don’t wild ferment at all. The flat bottles should be quite good still taste-wise.

Had a 375 not too long ago courtesy of ShadesOfGray (thanks, Ryan) that had great carbonation.

I ordered a couple of these to be delivered to my house. I popped one over the weekend, and it was completely still. Not a hint of carbonation. I was wondering if this is a known problem with this batch? I've drank at least a dozen of the Oude Gueuze and never had an issue. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this, and if they have contacted the brewery about it.
