Sounds like it's going to still be a bar but maybe a slightly different one?

Well, this could explain why the coolers were distressingly barren on my last visit (June 15). I wondered but really didn't want to ask.

This part does make it sound like it will still be a bar of some kind:

"I guarantee you will see the same regulars in the bar seats that have been there for years as well as some familiar bartenders."

Maybe just not a bottle shop any more? (Or bottles of hot sauce instead of beer?)

I guess this will be the end of Broken Truck then.

You're more polite than I am. I asked!

The bartender told this was just temporary, that they were just doing some cleaning and would re-stock soon. He assured me there was nothing to worry about, as I was a bit concerned.

Don't want to jump to any conclusions, but it now occurs to me that he might not have been entirely forthcoming about what was going on.

I'm not more polite. I just have zero poker face.

If I'd been asked to believe, "We're temporarily giving up a certain portion of our ability to generate revenue, for an unspecified time, just to keep the coolers nice and clean for you, our valued customers," I would've made a face. And it would've been the face that says, "You, sir, are bullshittng me."

Hmmm.... I'll check out the new spot I guess, but yeah, I don't like the sound of this either. I mostly go to TB for their great tap list, so a reduced bottle/can selection won't affect me too much.

TB is a pretty regular stop for me, so this is definitely not welcome news.

It'll be interesting to see if they can maintain the quality of taplist Tin Bucket had.

Didnt like the tap list, or the bartenders, or the location? As for the hot sauce market... yeah, I kinda get it. It's weird for Portland to not have a store, but I get mine online, it's not like I NEED ghost pepper sauce or Carolina rheaper sauce NOW

But, as long as one is out and about on a given day, and ones daily to-do list had one in the area, and one was thirsty, and, hey, why not test-drive a few sauces whilst having a lovely beverage?

OK, maybe not a destination store (or, maybe so for some folks), but, if Friday Harbor can support a hot sauce/jerky store, I suspect PDX can as well.

This is pretty much my take as well. And I like different hot sauces, so this doesn't have to be a complete fail. If the taplist remains strong (my biggest concern, as Tin Bucket's was often extraordinary), then I'll continue to stop by periodically I think. That's a pretty big if though.

It's a strange turn for a successful bar for sure, but I won't complain about having great hot sauce and beer in one place; just wish I lived closer by. I'll be checking out the new spot at some point soon.

In my head, I composed my post as "None of those changes sounded appealing to me." It would've been a lot clearer if I'd stayed with that. Ah well.

No, I don't like the thought of turning a good beer bar into a "beer bar and hot sauce store." That does not appeal to me.

No, I don't like the idea of taking away most of the beer coolers. That does not appeal to me.

No, I don't like the name "AleFire." That gets an eyeroll from me, but I have already established that I am not the target market, so I concede my opinion on the subject isn't worth much.

Also: I've been wrong plenty of times before. What the heck, this new place may become my new favorite hangout. Shrug.

Agreed on the eyeroll for the name.

I apologize for being negative, but hot sauce and good beer just do not go together in my mind or palate. Seperate they are both great..together?

ha ha. same for me. That why the BWW advertisements that promote BEER + HOT WINGS never resonates with me. when my mouth is on fire with buffalo sauce, the last thing I want is a beer, let alone a high quality craft beer
