In your opinion who would you compare them to in regard to the status of Brewery. They're no Firestone but better than???

I personally think they are superior to Firestone, but I only drink IPA. So that is simply from that perspective. I hate to "rate" brewery's because they are all different. But I also feel they are superior to Dustbowl and Barrelhouse, 2 other semi local operations.

I could care less about others opinions about TS. I think they brew some kick ass shit and will continue drinking it.

I like T-S, but there's no way they come close to Firestone Walker. I'd say they're way better than BarrelHouse, and slightly better than Dust Bowl.

I can't say that I see them ever being elite - that's a tiny minority of breweries, in my opinion. But there's no shame in being good or very good. I do agree that they've shown great improvement over the last year or so - especially since Lee came in as head brewer and they got the new bottling line. The core line-up has gotten better, though it still isn't anything spectacular, but the seasonals and one-offs have been really nice, for the most part. I've sent Rush Hour to a bunch of trade partners at this point, and gotten very positive reactions, so I don't think it's all local bias. Like kpacedo, I wrote them off for awhile too, but I'm glad I gave them another shot.

House of Pendragon, on the other hand, just might have a shot at reaching elite status. But they'll probably need to bottle or at least start filling growlers to get the hype train rolling outside the area.

I've heard very good things about Pendragon, but have yet to go there. Where is it actually? I've heard Clovis and I've heard Sanger.

And again, 99% of what I drink is IPA. IMO ddh and especially the tdh iterations are the best local ipa's. I'd take tdh over about 95% of ipas out there, local or not. I've also gotten stellar feedback in trading out ddh, rush hour, autumnus and others. Good, great..somewhere in between? Who knows, but at the very least, TS has reached "good", and for my pallette, even better.

If you like IPAs you'll like HoP, most of what they brew including their amber and brown is hoppy. Their Saisons are refreshing too.

Actually I don't. I got what must have been bad bottles, as I've had Pliny again and it tasted nothing like the first 2 bottles I had. I actually do like it, but there are quite a few I still prefer

Take my statement for what it is. Most of it is just some way too early in the morning thoughts. My main goal is to put in perspective some of the comments I've seen on this thread and hopefully set the table for the future. (I will note I work for TS so of course I have some brewery hubris, but so should anyone that's in the industry).

I also want to make it known that I am a beer geek. I confess! Does being an active member on a craft beer forum give it away? Lol. I travel for great beer, I trade for great beer, and I drink great beer just like a lot of Beer Advicate's in the San Joaquin Valley and Nationwide. It's probably my most passionate, time consuming, and let's not forget "most expensive" hobby. Craftbeer is a lifestyle to me and love that I can be a part of the craft beer movement from an industry standpoint as well...

I feel TS is "on their way" to being able to compete with any XYZ brewery and in some cases they are already there. It would be hard for me to say one brewery is better than another because they are all different and specialize in different styles or have a different strategy to satisfy their target/local market (most anyway).

My reasons why TS is "on their way":

    1) They are constantly improving/upgrading/changing

    2) They are taking risks and trying new things. (Mostly internal beer geek driven

    3) They are listening to their fan base and evolving with their palates

    4) Their growth is a prime example of success

I would say one of the main things holding TS back is their past history during start up and preconceived notions that they will never be good/great/elite or better than they were 2-3 years ago. It's hard to change someone's mind once that is already implanted in their head. Let's be honest if you're thinking you are not going to like something you are more than likely not going to like it. If there was a perfect answer for how to overcome this situation, I'm sure they'd be doing it on top of what they are already doing... Don't get me wrong I know TS is not hurting in the fan base department locally. They wouldn't have grown so much if they were. It is the old school and possibly new school beer geeks that I see TS sometimes struggling to win over. My gut feeling is if TS started fresh 18 months ago instead of 5-6 years ago the entire beer community would be looking at them differently. That is just my personal opinion though.

Because of my experience on both sides of the spectrum, from consumer to industry, I see the road blocks TS needs to overcome in order to get to that good/great/elite status I mentioned above....The main thing I can say to who ever may be reading this post and following this tread is don't let the past hold you back from anything New TS is doing. Give it all a fair shake. I challenge the local BAs to go to the beer garden and ask for samples of their new and/or pilot beers on tap. You don't even have to pay for a one or two 1-2 oz samples. Tell them I said so and leave some feedback. TS takes criticism with a grain of salt and uses it to make themselves better... They are not slowing down and the more local and outside the valley beer geek support/feedback they have, the greater they will be.

With that said I don't think I know most of the local (Central Valley BAs) that have posted on this tread. Please Email me. I'd love to set a time to meet at the TS Beer Garden and chat over a beer. It doesn't have to be our beer either lol. Cheers!

If you guys could bottle tdh, even on a small scale so that some could be shipped out, I think people would see why locals are hyping up the newer stuff. Rush Hour got out and look what happened.....many across the country said it was a top 5 breakfest stout. I will say this, in my personal opinion of the roughly 400 or so IPAs I've had, TDH simcoe was behind only Alpine Nelson and Enjoy By 4/20/14. I prefered it over Heady, Pliny, Hopslam, Duet, Exponential Happiness, Lunch etc etc

Done!... We we're already planning on bottling TDH series this year on a very small scale once they start to repeat again. It will be brewery only and about 200-300 bottle runs along with limited draft distro.

Tdh Nelson would be the death of me...but I believe his name is Matt(?) told me that acquiring Nelson hops is a chore. Any possibility for Galaxy?

It seems like I am just going to keep making your day because TDH Nelson is our Feb release. Draft and Growler Fills only. We will start to repeat after that. We we're able to find the hops from Fifty Fifty Brewing in Truckee.

That's great. I've really enjoyed most of the TDH series. I'm looking forward to having Citra and Amarillo again.

Is TS looking into brewing a scotch ale or cream ale? I'm going to have to make sure I get over to beer gardens and drink a bunch of samplers. I hope you keep up the hard work, the last couple beers I had were amazing, piece of cake, Rush hour.
