    Good morning,

A few days ago, the annual celebratory festival of the most recognized Italian craft beer in the world was announced: Tipopils Day 2025

As always, in addition to the classic version (which in the USA is dry hopped on site so that no hints are lost during exportation which takes place directly in tanks) there will be special versions to celebrate it.

This year Agostino Arioli announced that there will be a:
    • Tipo³, that is, a small barrel with a Tipopils with triple decoction and triple dry hopping, in a small barrel to be served by gravity.
    • Tipopils Slovenian Cut - Slovenia über Helles, that is, the basic recipe of TipoPils with pure Slovenian hopping.
The event will take place not only in the Italian regions, but also in many venues in Europe and the USA (still being updated).

For further information and an updated list of the participating venues, I would recommend you consult the page dedicated to the event on the official website of Birrificio Italiano (or on their other social media):

Very informative, thank you. Sounds like the people behind TipoPils really care about their craft. Its a shame the folk where I am don’t take much notice

Thanks for posting- I was unaware that a place 3 mi/5k from my house is participating. I’ll need to see if I can get there!

If I lived 3 miles from the Bavarian Lodge I'd be in trouble in so many ways! :grimacing:

    It can be dangerous….

We used to go more often, but my wife rarely drinks these days and I’m trying to lose weight- BUT I may be able to use this as the perfect excuse to get back there!

6 miles round trip would be an easy way to get those steps in!

dope; love Tipo Pils. Last year's special varient was a subtle twist but a really exceptional beer. Excited to get some on cask in a few weeks, hopefully! I think that beer will pop with lower carb etc.

Very cool that they selected Finn's Manor in Denver. They've been serving Tipo on tap there for years. I'm definitely going to try to go. As much as I hate places using the term "Italian Pilsner" - I absolutely love Tipo and what it's all about.

Is this the case again? I knew they had to stop doing that years ago because it was deemed illegal and were only shipping over packaged Tipo from Italy. B. United's website still indicates that only bottles and kegs are available (rather than cans) which leads me to believe that they haven't resumed the tank beer process for Tipopils.

    Good evening,
honestly the first customs problem that stopped export in tanks and subsequent dry hopping on site occurred in 2020 and caused the explicit decision to block the export of a product that might not reflect the usual level.
Below is the official communication that explains what I have said:
    https://www.facebook.com/birrificio...uZkG42tKeIIyWjNyw65c4Bm3PN5ST3AD5lj78NpFFcqIw

Later, there was communication of resolution of such problem and return to the US scene, but objectively I can't say for sure if they resumed with the old way of doing things (which I thought they were, but I'm not sure), or if they only changed strategies by exporting kegs and bottles and no longer entire tanks. I know for sure that for at least a year and a half exports were stopped and then they resumed. And I know this from information provided by the Brewery with its communications, not specifically.

Just heard back from Agostino. They currently don't have a Finnish importer, but would love to work on making it happen for next year. So, my new goal is to help get at least one beer bar in Finland on the list in 2026. :beers:

    Good morning Advocates,
I'm trying to carve out a few minutes from work to give a brief account of my TipoPils Day 2025.
Yesterday I left work half an hour early and went from the office in the San Lorenzo area of Rome, where I arrived at the "Luppolo 12" pub at 6:00 pm.
I don't see the barrel, nor the sticker of the Pils version with Slovenian hops.
After asking about it, the guys at the pub realized that in fact the barrel attached was not a "classic" TipoPils but was the "SLOVENIAN CUT - Slovenia über Helles".
Once I made them aware of this not insignificant detail, I immediately asked them for it.
These are my notes taken at the time:

Birrificio Italiano (Limido Comasco, ITA) - SLOVENIAN CUT - Slovenia über Helles - Helles (5,2%).

Light herbaceous aromas and bread-making on the nose.
Golden blond color, clean white foam, soft and abundant.
In the mouth, the right body, light but not inconsistent, perfect carbonation, lively but in the background.
In the mouth, the herbaceous taste refreshes that of cereals and bread, the honeyed note is missing, the bitterness is less decisive but the herbaceous (of freshly cut grass) accompanies the entire drink, refreshing it.
Splendid variation of the basic version, less bitter but more herbaceous and which transmits a sensation of freshness.
    Extreme balance.

After three well-savoured glasses, I move on foot to another very nearby pub that has been participating in this event for years, the "Artisan".
There I find the small barrel containing the "Tipo³", a version of TipoPils made with triple decoction and triple dry hopping, to be served by gravity:

Birrificio Italiano (Limido Comasco, ITA) - TIPO³ - Triple dry hopped Pilsners (5,2%).

On the nose, more pronounced herbaceous aromas and bread crust.
A slightly darker golden colour compared to the "Slovevian Cut", a rightly abundant and compact foam.
In the mouth, a wonderfully slender beer with a "natural" carbonation, very light which helps the beer to be thirst-quenching.
In the mouth I would have expected a more intense taste (perhaps in memory of the barrel version of last year, which involved the use of fresh hops immersed directly in the barrel with a suspended net/filter.
In reality, the herbaceous taste of hops is well kept under control and preceded by broad notes of cereal and bread (durum wheat bread), followed by a softer, slightly sweet note, more marzipan than honey (in my opinion).
The finish is dry, but less bitter than that of the "classic" TipoPils - and this is a surprise for me - with these herbaceous notes that dry the beer, leave the tongue clean (without bitter residues) and remain, together with the delicate bread notes, on the palate.
All very light, certainly balanced but, based on the experiences of the past years, I would have expected something more decisive in terms of taste impact and perhaps also length of aftertaste, which instead is very delicate and fast.
