So finally going to build out my cellar. What are so interesting things you have incorporated in your cellar? I will be building some shelves, but want to incorporate something unique/different. Looking for tips.

I'm afraid my cellar isn't very photogenic, so I have little to offer. I have shelves in my basement, but prefer to keep my beers on the cement floor. Instead, I keep a few things on the shelves that make for interesting displays. Perhaps one of these will give you an idea...

    1. Old ``retired'' beer glasses. I LOVE to collect glassware and can't keep all of it in the kitchen, so as old glasses get replaced they get moved down to the cellar where I put them on shelves and fill them with...

    2. Bottlecaps. I keep bottlecaps and put them in vases, old glasses, etc. Makes for a cool display.

    3. Swag. During the time I've been beer hunting, I've accrued various bits of swag from breweries. You know, things like stickers, buttons, key chains, bottle openers, coasters, signs, etc. I leave them laying around the shelves.

    4. Empty bottles. I keep empties of hard-to-find bottles, attractive bottles, or just those with interesting artwork (e.g., Three Floyds).

    deadonhisfeet has some good ideas.

I don't have a cellar (I use a fridge and a closet) since we don't have them where I live, but I have a few things set up in the house.

Have this set up in my formal dining room in the corner (between two hutches that hold my glassware, lambic baskets and other swag):

And this wall (butts up against my beer closet) has a bunch of metal/non-metal beer signs:

I also save corks (both beer and wine) and put them in vases or other clear containers. That makes for a good display upstairs or in your cellar.

I would suggest you incorporate cool temperatures and do not incorporate light.

I built my cellar in a room that is located in the basement. The room has a small window, which is blacked out. The room is also on the shady north side of the house and so it stays cool in the summer. The two exterior walls in the room are not insulated and are bare concrete which adds to the coolness during the summer and winter. The shelves are 2' X 4" construction with 3/8" plywood for shelving. The shelving system is secured to an interior wood framed wall with 16" stud centers.

The only thing I would change is the type of wood I used, I used standard lumber. I would go with some better quality wood and a higher grade of finising.
