OK. Got the 12 oz can format down now. No cropping, fixed proportion at 2x4. This final download works.

Note to self: Crop image on phone first then share to files for orig proportions and resize. Ta Da!! That's the ticket. 16 oz can. Needs better reso.

1st crop the full image to a 1:2 aspect ration, then resize the image down to 300px tall, maintaining the aspect ratio, giving a width of 150px.

Then if your image file size is too large, use an online photo compressor, preferably one you can set a target file size on. The order of these steps does matter to create a suitable image to be uploaded.

I'm getting better at this. Yet good tight bottle pics aren't the best. They're acceptable but I'm gonna keep on tryin'. Here's one of my latest can pix for our database. Cropping w camera then other edits w picmonkey including size.

What sharpening tool are you using? I'd like to use this if it doesn't increase the size (20 kb).

In PicMonkey once you've selected a pic the edit column is on the left. You'll need to play with it for a while to figure out what's too high res or not. Keep the size orig. Some of my last pics are 15kb and up which is nice.

Thanks, I'll give this a try. My original photos are fine, but after using the "Resize your photo" app, many get a bit fuzzy. Hopefully this will help.

You should be able to add + or - resolution, keep it under 20kb without affecting the 150 x. 300 size while doing so.

Yep. Reso only affects the kb. My biggest step was realizing to crop the image first on my phone then do all other edits using PicMonkey.

Is that can actually hourglass shaped or is that an optical illusion or just my eyes?

It's shaped like that. Skinny at the bottom.

I have been using Befunky for a bit now....mostly because it is free and super easy to work with.
Main observations are that cropping does matter &
PC produces a better resolution than the app/phone.

Great perseverance! After going through a bunch of hassle and still getting photos rejected, I just add new beers without pictures. Maybe someday...

I clicked on this thread because I thought that it might help me actually learn how to upload pics. I haven't seen anything here yet that will help with that task.

When I try to upload pics, I always get the message "uploads are not available."

Any assistance would be appreciated. Please speak slowly as I am an old man who barely understands this magic box with an attached keyboard

Are you talking about adding a new beer photo to the database or just uploading a pic to any given thread/post?

Also, are you likely to upload pics from a computer or your phone?

I use my computer and will give you specific instructions for that process. If you are wanting to upload a pic into a post that you make in a thread, your pic first has to be uploaded to a third party hosting site (i.e. you can't directly upload a pic into a post from your computer, so the third party is needed). I use imgur.com so any instructions I give you can be more precise if you sign up and create an account on that site. (It free and easy to use.)

If you just want to upload pics to the BA database for a beer or a Place, those can be directly uploaded from your computer after you have done whatever cropping that you think is needed, adjusting lighting, etc. Getting one of these pics to the right dimensions and byte size must occur before you can upload a pic for a beer or place.

If you want to do all this on your phone only, someone else will have to chime in on that because I'm not familiar with how to do it that way.

First off, thank you for your offer of assistance.

Second, I'd likely use my computer to upload pics
