Hmm..thats odd. I was at the Cafe around 11pm..they said "we have our milkshake on if you want to get that before it runs out!" and I ordered one. Thought it would be on draft.....saw her pouring it out of the can..

Edit: I thought it was great, but decently warm..almost as if they brought the cans over and hadn't refrigerated them again

Sorry, I was at the Ferm not the Cafe. Ferm keg kicked and they didn't put another one on.

Well that's strange.... What did they charge you?

Yeah that is very odd that they would pour it out of a can. Only thing I can think would be if the keg kicked mid-pour and they wanted to top it off.

Keg did not kick mid pour. Pretty sure they charged me whatever the price on the sheet was (can't remember).

Yes, I've seen that - basically the only thing people are concerned about appears to be the trading, not whether the beer is actually good or not. Seems like a big circle jerk of people rotating very similar beers.

Any number of things could have happened. Yeast could have been improperly stored in the transition and took a few generations to show. Faulty gauges or controls on some equipment. You name it, it can go wrong, and is more likely to go wrong and not caught right away when a system is new I'd wager.

Tired Hands is far from the only brewery that chooses to release off batches instead of dump them. I understand why, and it hasn't hurt their rep much if at all. Of course, if they did decide to dump any batches that weren't up to snuff it would just mean the beer prices would go up even faster than they have been up to now.

    On that we can agree.

As I have posted many times: I just hope that can achieve proper QA/QC with their brewing.

Charging BIG BUCKS for beers of varying quality is not appropriate in my opinion.

    Cheers!

Edit: Having varying quality is inappropriate regardless of price charged.

    To quote a funny video:

WIFE: The beer you trade for must taste a lot better, right?
    HUSBAND: No. About the same.

Hey if a couple shakes lands me a Huna or some nice sours...I believe there is a PT Barnum quote...

You know what, that's not fair, to each his own and all in good spirit, I stopped swapping cans for cans a while ago though.

I cracked a couple cans last night in the hotel to cut down on luggage weight. It was my first milkshake, so I don't have anything to compare to, but I thought it was excellent. I also really enjoyed Pinal, but I think I like Oblivix more on draft.

I'm pretty damn jealous of the locals that get to hit that place every week. And for what's it's worth I think a lot of the complaining about crowds and lines is way overblown. I got there around 6 and had no problems. Maybe I just got lucky but I thought the line was very efficient and handled very well by the folks at Tired Hands.

Two cans can really land a Huna? Not being a dick I just don't really know the value of these cans.

I'm glad the hyper negativity of some on this thread didn't turn you off. Tired Hands is certainly top notch.

I think the new milkshake is spot-on, as is last week's Strawberry too.

Do you guys think Tired Hands will be busier than usual because of the Broad Street Run coming up next weekend? I'll be in town for the run and i'd like to try out Tired Hands for the first time. But if it's going to be a shit show, i'll probably stay away.

Tired Hands is in Ardmore which is in the suburbs, depending on traffic at least a 30 min drive from the Navy Yard.

So I would guess no effect. What will effect is if they have a can release that day.

I ran Broad Street last year, and then headed to Tired Hands after the race to celebrate, it was not any busier than any other Sunday, so you should be fine. And you can make advance reservations on-line at the Fermateria in route if you want a table, but if you are looking to Carb Re-load after the race, I recommend the Brew Cafe for the Bread and Butter, the Bread is made in house and is wonderful.

RE: Cans at the Brew Cafe
While in the can line I had overheard that they were "having problems with the Brew Cafe keg," although later at the 6:30pm or so when I was actually at the Cafe having dinner, the bartender told me that the keg wasn't there in time so they simply decided to open cans. It seemed like a somewhat strange but mostly plausible explanation, but now this strangeness seems compounded by the fact that they didn't transport the keg some 4-5 hours later. Regardless, the beer indeed is drinking great. Cheers.
